Organizational Context and Scope Since its establishment in 1951, IOM has consistently recognized Movement Operations as a vital component of its core mission. Facilitating the organized movement of individuals requiring international migration support remains a fundamental responsibility of the Organization and a key operational focus. Across IOM Country Offices, Movement Operations Units—overseen by the Resettlement and Movement Management (RMM) Division within the Department of Mobility Pathways and Inclusion at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters—handle all travel-related logistics for migrants and refugees under IOM’s guidance. Their work is conducted in alignment with framework agreements established with resettlement and receiving governments, as well as partners involved in the diverse programs administered by the Organization. The Driver reports to the Resource Management Officer, with direct oversight provided by the Admin & Finance Assistant, and is tasked with fulfilling the following duties and responsibilities. Responsibilities

Formation / DiplĂ´mes

  • Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s). Oversee the ongoing maintenance of the designated vehicle(s) to uphold their operational safety and reliability. Conduct daily inspections of essential components such as tires, brakes, engine oil, and fan belts to verify proper function and adherence to safety standards. Oversee routine maintenance tasks and coordinate necessary minor repairs while maintaining the cleanliness and overall presentation of the vehicles. Ensure vehicles adhere to scheduled service intervals consistently. Maintain accurate documentation of spare parts inventory for vehicle(s) and perform monthly stock audits to ensure proper tracking and availability. Determine the most efficient and secure path to the destination, utilizing optimal routes along the highest-quality available roads. Ensure all IOM vehicles are utilized exclusively for official and authorized activities, as directed by the supervisor. Ensure the daily log sheet is completed and compile a monthly report summarizing key vehicle metrics, including mileage and fuel consumption statistics. Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion in all discussions involving IOM and its representatives, ensuring the protection of sensitive information. Implement appropriate measures to mitigate potential security risks to IOM officials and assets within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle and along transportation routes.

Localisation

  • Greet designated personnel upon their arrival at the airport(s) and assist with all necessary immigration and customs procedures as needed. Collect and distribute mail, documents, pouches, and other communications or items to and from the country office, traveling as needed to the post office, airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, and similar locations to retrieve and deliver materials while maintaining required documentation. When required, support the country office staff by handling basic administrative tasks, including managing telephone correspondence, producing photocopies, and maintaining organized records.

Execute any additional tasks or responsibilities as directed. Qualifications Required Qualifications and Experience Education A high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by at least two years of pertinent professional experience, is required; alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized accredited institution is acceptable.

  • Valid national driver’s licence. Accredited universities are identified by their inclusion in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.

Proven ability to operate a diverse range of vehicle makes and models with competence and adaptability.

  • Skills in minor vehicle repairs. Proficient in utilizing radio communication systems, email platforms, telephone networks, and other relevant applications. Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Languages Fluency in both English and Swahili is a mandatory requirement for this role. Proficiency in French and Spanish is considered an asset.
