Job Summary
Responsible for enhancing finance business performance and analytics within Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB – Global Markets) and Treasury. This position demands a comprehensive grasp of the primary factors influencing the balance sheet, income statement, and associated performance metrics. It further entails providing pivotal financial insights to the Head of BP&A, Director of Corporate, Director of Markets, and Country Treasury. Moreover, the role safeguards consistent revenue through robust month-end processes, thorough product profitability assessments, and precise recognition of revenue, costs, and balance sheet components.
Main Accountabilities and Approximate Time Split
Financial Insights & Strategic Risk Management (50%)
Responsible for ensuring the precision and reliability of financial reports, specifically management accounts, across Corporate and Investments Banking as well as product performance metrics. Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to deliver a precise and prompt representation of their performance metrics, including revenue, cost, and overall profitability on a consistent basis. Deliver impartial, data-driven evaluations of organizational and product effectiveness, identifying both potential risks and strategic opportunities to enhance business outcomes. Proactively assess risks and opportunities linked to the bank's financial performance to ensure informed decision-making and strategic alignment. Collaborate effectively with the strategy team to maintain alignment between strategic initiatives and their financial implications.
Business and Product Support
Contribute to business and product support by engaging in the New Products and Governance Committee, where you will offer financial insights and oversee the realization of benefits for all new products and initiatives. Assist in compiling Management packs, which encompass both quantitative reports and qualitative analyses, for various entities such as FCMC, MBR, Flash Calls, ABSA Group Limited, and other Bank committees. Resolve discrepancies encountered with internal business stakeholders—such as inaccuracies in financial records, misplaced entries, and inconsistencies stemming from highly variable data quality—by investigating and addressing issues to ensure the integrity and completeness of financial information for informed decision-making. The role involves compiling and analyzing non-financial data (Level 2 information) and conducting comprehensive evaluations of products, systems, or processes to facilitate insightful discussions and informed decision-making. Proactively detecting and promptly escalating potential risks within the business support and analytics unit to ensure timely resolution and mitigation. Conduct ad-hoc analyses upon request from senior management to support data-driven decision-making.
Planning and Performance Management (20%)
Support the establishment of objectives and take initiative in tracking progress toward their attainment. Collaborate with business stakeholders to pinpoint risk factors that may hinder our ability to meet established targets, and develop and implement appropriate corrective measures to mitigate those risks. Prepare and deliver mid-month outlooks or flash updates on a minimum of three occasions each month, empowering business leaders and management to take timely, high-impact actions that drive superior performance. Deliver comprehensive business support by evaluating and interpreting the critical factors influencing each cost line in relation to budgetary allocations. To provide ABSA Africa with financial and other key performance indicators.
Competitive Analysis & Other Macro Factors (10%)
Collect and evaluate market data and competitive trends relevant to CIB that may impact business performance and competitive positioning, then provide strategic recommendations to optimize product profitability. We analyze publicly accessible data sources, including Macros and various BOT reports, to identify potential market trends. This involves evaluating sector performance metrics such as customer deposits, loans and advances, as well as the currency composition of deposits. Conduct market intelligence to guide strategic initiatives, analyzing pivotal trends identified from competitors and other sectors that will shape our decision-making process.
Financial Controls and Compliance (10%)
Collaborate closely with financial controls teams to strengthen financial governance by refining existing processes, optimizing infrastructure, and elevating overall capabilities. This encompasses identifying opportunities for enhancement, implementing best practices, and ensuring robust control frameworks are in place to mitigate risks and drive operational efficiency. Financial statements must be prepared in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and all applicable regulatory guidelines to ensure accuracy and consistency in reporting. Ensure that both new and existing product initiatives are supported by accurate and well-defined accounting entries and guidelines. Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations and acts by accurately applying tax treatments to financial transactions and reporting. Ensure that product mappings remain current and precise, guaranteeing accurate assignment of revenue and balance sheet entries to the correct profit centers or business segments. Partner with Financial Controls to streamline or improve current processes, driving enhanced efficiency and accelerating the preparation of financial information. Ensure monthly financial segmentation is conducted with fairness, precision, and promptness. Verify alignment between TM1 results (specifically the Tanzania Cube) and SAP as well as FR packs to maintain reporting consistency. Any discrepancies identified must be promptly reported to the Head of Business Performance and Analytics, as well as the Financial Controller. The incumbent will automate essential reports using Power BI or other approved data analytical tools, as designated by the Bank.
Fund Transfer Pricing (FTP) (5%)
Ensure the SUM FTP system is configured in strict adherence to the FTP policy, as sanctioned by ALSO. Facilitate seamless FTP computation to promote equitable allocation of economic benefits and costs among organizational functions. Implement critical FTP modifications, including adjustments to the Behavioral profile and any other relevant assumptions, while adhering to established governance protocols. Communicate FTP outcomes to business stakeholders, the Head of Business Performance and Analytics, as well as relevant colleagues prior to final publication.
Team Building and Support (5%)
Take ownership of your personal performance enhancement, training initiatives, and career progression strategies, ensuring these plans remain pertinent and are actively pursued. Actively engage in initiatives that enhance bank performance, while providing assistance to colleagues to ensure collective success. Possesses a comprehensive grasp of their function within the complete operational workflows they contribute to, alongside awareness of relevant risks and corresponding controls. Conducting assigned snap checks in accordance with established protocols and guidelines.

Possesses a comprehensive understanding of their position within the full scope of end-to-end processes, encompassing relevant risks and associated controls. Ensure compliance with all relevant ABSA policies and procedures pertinent to your position, exercising sound judgment and maintaining responsible risk management practices. Report any risk events, incidents, or issues through the established process for your business area, analyzing their root causes implementing preventative measures and mitigate future occurrences. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the control environment by anticipating potential process risks and implementing preventive measures to mitigate errors. Actively and consistently collaborate with regulatory authorities and, as needed, labor unions to ensure compliance and foster productive relationships. All mandatory training must be completed by the specified deadline.

Technical Skills / Competencies
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, or a closely related discipline is required. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Associate Chartered Certified Accountant (ARCA) qualification is highly advantageous. A master's degree in business studies is considered a valuable asset.
Experience
A minimum of four years of professional experience in business finance and analytics, auditing, business or strategic planning, or financial accounting is required. Proficiency in Power BI is considered a valuable asset. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated capability to meet stringent deadlines while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and ensuring error-free results.
