Uganda Railways Corporation (URC), a corporate entity established under the URC Act, holds the mandate to construct, operate, and maintain railway, marine, and road services—both within and beyond Uganda’s borders—for the transport of passengers and goods. The Corporation invites applications from qualified Ugandan candidates for the position of Senior Public Safety Officer (RG 8).

As an RG 8 Patrol Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining public safety by conducting routine patrols, enforcing laws, and responding to incidents within designated areas. Your duties will include monitoring suspicious activities, issuing citations or warnings when necessary, and documenting observations in detailed reports. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a clean criminal record, and the ability to pass physical fitness assessments. Additionally, strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the capacity to handle high-pressure situations are essential for success in this role.

Oversee the execution of key responsibilities and daily duties, ensuring adherence to established protocols and organizational standards. Play a pivotal role in completing assigned tasks efficiently while contributing to broader operational objectives. Collaborate cross-functionally to support team goals and enhance overall productivity. Maintain meticulous attention to detail in all deliverables to uphold quality and consistency. Address any discrepancies or challenges promptly to minimize disruption and maintain workflow continuity. Serve as a dependable resource for colleagues, providing guidance and assistance as needed to foster a productive work environment.

Responsibilities include conducting routine inspections along designated railway track segments to promptly detect and document any signs of track damage, such as fractures, compromised fastenings, or potential hazards. Ensuring the safe passage of trains by continuously inspecting the track for potential hazards, with heightened vigilance during and after periods of heavy rainfall. Performs systematic patrols in accordance with a predefined patrol chart and schedule. Promptly notify the nearest station or the Permanent Way Inspector of any damage or obstruction observed on the track. Utilize and ensure the proper maintenance of all patrol equipment, such as the patrol book and any additional tools provided, to uphold operational readiness and efficiency. Diligently complies with all established safety protocols and regulatory standards throughout patrol duties, ensuring the protection of the line in emergency situations. Responsibilities include monitoring the structural integrity of level crossings, bridges, and other infrastructure, with a focus on identifying and documenting any discrepancies or irregularities that may compromise safety or operational standards. Assisting in safeguarding the track during construction activities and performing routine maintenance tasks as directed by their supervisor.
