Expert Application Advice

What this role involves
You’ll handle daily pick-ups and drop-offs for staff or goods across Kampala and surrounding areas, ensuring vehicles are clean, fuelled, and road-ready. Expect to maintain a logbook of trips, report any mechanical issues promptly, and sometimes assist with loading or unloading cargo. Reliability and punctuality are key—you’ll often be the first face clients or colleagues see.

Key skills to highlight
A valid Ugandan driving permit (classes B, CM, or DL) and a clean traffic record are essential. Show experience driving in both urban and rural Ugandan roads, including during rainy seasons. Mention basic vehicle maintenance (checking oil, tyre pressure, battery) and knowledge of GPS or map apps like Google Maps. If you’ve handled passenger transport or delivery routes before, that’s a strong plus.

Taf4All CV tip
List a “Driving Experience” section with specific routes you’ve covered (e.g., “Kampala–Jinja daily runs for 2 years”) and any safety or punctuality records (e.g., “zero accidents in 3 years”). Avoid generic phrases like “good driver”—show numbers and places instead. If you have a letter from a past employer confirming your reliability, mention it.

Before you apply
Never pay any fee to apply—legitimate driving jobs in Uganda don’t ask for “registration” or “processing” money. Verify the company’s physical address or phone number on the job post; if it’s vague or only a mobile money request, walk away. Check if the role has a fixed workplace or route—scams often promise high pay for “flexible” hours.

  • Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
