request, substantive support for initiatives and other efforts of
Member States of the African region towards the realization of
measures of peace, arms limitations and disarmament in the
region. UNREC was further mandated to cooperate with the African Union
and to coordinate the implementation of regional activities in
Africa leading to peace, arms control and disarmament. Context: The current security situation in Africa, more specifically in
the Sahel, is marked by a resurgence of armed attacks and the
proliferation of armed groups. This increasingly worrying context
is fueled by terrorism and the recruitment of young combatants who
may strengthen terrorist groups. Young people are therefore exposed
to covert recruitment campaigns aimed at supplying armed groups
with fighters. In order to establish a youth awareness-raising and
training programme to combat this phenomenon, address the
proliferation of small arms and light weapons in sub-Saharan
Africa, and promote peacebuilding and peace consolidation, the
United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa,
UNREC, is seeking a specialist United Nations Volunteer in crisis
prevention to support its activities. Task description: Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: - Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept
of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications
and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that
mark International Volunteer Day); - Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local
forms of volunteerism in the host country; Reflect on the type and
quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including

participation in ongoing reflection activities; - Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit
them for UNV publications/websites, etc.; - Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN
Volunteers; - Promote or advise local groups in the use of online
volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and
organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever
technically possible. - Results/Expected Outputs Two Regional photo competition with
young leaders are organized About 80 youth leaders are trained and
engaged in sensitization and awareness campaigns from each regional
photo competition. The online component in numbers: 25 percent completion rate for
the online course across all phases At least 3 skills workshops
across the duration of the programme. At least 3 substantive webinars across the programme to
contextualize online learning 3 YLF participants travel to Japan
for an immersive experiential learning experience Insights on
online training and include at least 10 additional international
