Baobab Group is composed of 7 subsidiaries, its holding company is Paris, where its executive committee is located, and also has a shared services center in Dakar. These two entities bring together the group’s strategic and support functions.
You work in the Data team, organized into 3 areas of expertise (Data Engineering, Data Analysis, Data Science) based on a Cloud Data Platform (GCP). DakarAs a Senior Data Analyst, you are a technical and methodological referent of the Data Analytics team. You are responsible for the quality and evolution of the group’s semantic layer (Looker/LookML), as well as its preparation for new conversational Analytics/BI uses. You take the technical lead on these topics and make recommendations to the Data Analytics Manager. You are both a producer of high-value analytics for businesses and management, and referrer in the design of sustainable analytical assets (semantic models, standards, strategic dashboards) that structure the way subsidiaries use data on a daily basis. Your impact is measured by the quality of the decisions that data allows to make: acceleration of analysis cycles, reliability of indicators that guide the management of the group, autonomy of professions in access to data, and effective adoption of analytical tools by subsidiaries.
Responsibilities
Semantic layer & modeling LookML
Design, maintain and evolve the group semantic layer on Looker: LookML models, explorations, PDTs,
Define, evolve and ensure compliance with modeling standards: nomenclature, measurement and dimension governance, drill management, cross-functional consistency between subsidiaries
Identify and implement, in conjunction with Data Engineers, performance and cost optimization levers for analytical uses: SQL/LookML optimization, PDTs, partitioning, clustering and incremental strategies.
Document key group metrics (GLP, PAR, disbursements, savings, digital products etc.) and ensure their consistency over time
Define and implement analytical product quality control and recipe systems: validation of business rules, consistency of indicators, non-regression tests and documentation of deviations.
Democratization & self-service analytics
Take the operational lead on the deployment of conversational Analytics/BI, GenAI and analytical agents: qualification of use cases, structuring of perimeters, support of users and follow-up of adoption.
Make the semantic layer usable by analytical agents and conversational Analytics/BI interfaces: explicit naming, enriched semantic descriptions, controlled exposure of explorations and safeguards on sensitive metrics.
Evaluate the new GenAI tools and uses applied to Analytics and BI: analytical agents, conversational interfaces, co-pilots, agentic orchestration; conduct targeted POCs, benchmarks, use case frames and make recommendations, especially on build vs buy choices.
High value business analysis
To frame the complex analytical issues raised by businesses and subsidiaries: reformulate needs, make assumptions, propose a structured approach
Carry out in-depth exploratory analyses (portfolio segmentation, risk analysis, product profitability, digital funnels) and produce actionable recommendations for the trades and, depending on the subject, management
Collaborate with Data Scientists on use cases requiring statistical, predictive or machine learning approaches: preparation and understanding of data, definition of business variables, interpretation of results and integration of outputs in analytical products.
Demonstrate rigorous critical thinking: question biases, quality of sources, robustness of conclusions
Render with impact: slides, storytelling data, synthetic dashboards
Technical leadership within the Data Analytics team
Ensure the review of SQL code and LookML and ensure compliance with team development standards
Support Data Analysts in solving complex technical and analytical problems and contribute to their upskilling.
Êbe a force for proposal on the standards, templates, guidelines and recipe protocols of the team
Take the technical lead on certain structuring Analytics projects, coordinate their implementation and report on their progress to the Data Analytics Manager.
Measurement and valuation of analytical deliverables
Define and monitor the indicators of use and adoption of dashboards, semantic models and conversational tools available to subsidiaries
Objective and value the business impact of products and analyses under its responsibility: triggered decisions, operational gains, cost savings, time saved analyst; produce the necessary elements for their return to the Data Analytics Manager and business sponsors.
Identify low-use dashboards and analytical assets and propose actions of redesign, reappropriation or deprioritization.
Contribution to the Analytics & BI roadmap
Identify opportunities for industrialization and automation (recurring dashboards, alerting, feed notifications/SMS)
Identify and formalize the evolution needs of stack analytics and data platform necessary for analytical uses, and bring these needs to the Data Analytics Manager and Data Engineering / Data Science teams.
Contribute to the preparation of the Analytics roadmap by formulating evolution proposals, impact estimates and prioritization recommendations.
Candidate profile
Education / Qualifications
Higher degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, computing, data science or equivalent quantitative field, at least 5 years of experience in Data Analytics, including significant experience in a senior role, technical referent or porting structuring analytical products
Expert mastery of SQL and a cloud data warehouse, ideally BigQuery (partitioning, clustering, cost optimization, incremental strategies etc)
Proven expertise on a BI semantic layer, Looker/LookML ideally (or equivalents: dbt semantic layer for example)
Experience
Concrete experience with conversational Analytics/BI and analytical agents (Looker Conversational Analytics, Gemini in Looker or equivalents), as well as a good understanding of the requirements they impose on a well-governed semantic layer.
Knowledge of Python appreciated for exploration or automation
Strong orchestration capacity: multi-actor coordination, organization and management of priorities, facilitation of working groups
Adoption coaching and change management skills on analytical tools
Sensitivity to value measurement (use KPIs, ROI of deliverables)
Proficiency in written and oral English
Êbe autonomous, responsive, rigorous and methodical
ÊBe creative and have a sense of initiative
ÊBe honest and transparent
A plus: knowledge of the microfinance sector, credit or banking systems
Technical leadership
Other information
You are recognized as a reference point by your peers. You know how to set standards, challenge technical choices, formulate reasoned recommendations and raise the skills of other members of the team without a hierarchical link.
Problem-solving
You diagnose and solve analytical and technical problems with method and pragmatism.
Communication
You adapt your posture: rigorous with techs, pedagogue with trades, synthetic with management.
Rigor & critical thinking
You question the data, assumptions and conclusions — Yours as well as those of others.
You know the limits of an analysis and document them.
Control of conversational Analytics/BI uses
You are comfortable working with analytical interfaces whose output varies and know how to design the corresponding safeguards: review of the returns, control of the exposed metrics, evaluation and benchmarking protocols.
Curiosity & intelligence
You are actively monitoring the BI and semantic ecosystem. You test, benchmark, prototype and know the difference between fashion effect and real value creation.
Autonomy & sense of initiative
You take control of a subject, structure your approach and lead it to delivery without close supervision. You know how to make decisions within your perimeter and seek arbitration when it exceeds your level of responsibility.
Integrity & transparency
You are direct about what works and what doesn’t. You don't survive.

•Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
•Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
•Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
•Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
•Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
•A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
