Wash and Shelter Specialist, Yaoundé Organization: Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) Country: Cameroon City: Yaoundé Office: NRC in Yaoundé, Cameroon About the Context Cameroon is currently facing three overlapping humanitarian crises. Since 2017, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been working in the country to support people who have been forced to flee their homes. NRC helps protect displaced communities and supports them as they rebuild their lives. Operations are ongoing in all crisis-affected regions, including the Far North, Northwest, Southwest, East, and Adamawa. NRC’s work focuses on four main areas: legal assistance (ICLA), water and sanitation (WASH), shelter, and education. These programmes are designed to respond to urgent needs while also supporting long-term recovery. From 2027, NRC Cameroon country office will ensure supervision and support to operations implemented in Central African Republic. Across its offices, NRC promotes an integrated approach, aiming to provide coordinated support that helps communities move from emergency to stability. For WASH roles, show how your experience directly solves les compétences demandées dans l'annonce. Mention specific projects where you improved water access or sanitation systems at Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC)—this proves you can deliver results in challenging field conditions.
International NGO — NGO recruiters read your cover letter to assess your understanding of the humanitarian mission, not just technical skills. Show you know the country field context and the specific challenges of this sector.

- •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
- •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
- •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
- •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
- •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
- •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
