Our technology helps institutions automate onboarding, identity verification, and credit decisioning — reducing time from hours to seconds while maintaining full regulatory compliance. We are currently live with multiple financial institutions in Africa and expanding rapidly into new regions including the U.S., U.K., and Asia. Role Overview We are looking for a Head of AI to lead the development, optimization, and scaling of Nixacom’s AI systems — including our KYC engine , loan decision-making models , and upcoming products in fraud detection, income verification, and customer analytics. The ideal candidate is technical, resourceful, and entrepreneurial , capable of taking ownership of our AI infrastructure, improving its performance, reducing operational costs, and driving innovation across our entire ecosystem. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will directly shape the future of AI automation in financial services across developing economies. Key Responsibilities 1. AI Development & Optimization Lead the development and continual improvement of our KYC verification system (OCR, facial recognition, document parsing, biometric matching). Build, optimize, and maintain the loan decision-making engine , integrating rule-based and AI-driven models for credit scoring and risk evaluation. Develop new models for fraud detection , income verification , and document authenticity . Explore opportunities for low-code / no-code deployment to speed up onboarding for new financial institutions. 2. System Integration & Architecture Integrate AI systems with databases and external APIs (national ID registries, credit bureaus, payroll APIs, etc.). Ensure compliance with data security, encryption, and privacy standards across multi-country environments. Oversee cloud infrastructure, optimizing inference and storage costs. 3. Research & Innovation Evaluate and implement emerging AI tools that can reduce cost or improve speed and accuracy. Create and maintain datasets for supervised and semi-supervised model training. Work closely with the CEO and product team to identify new AI features and opportunities. 4. Leadership & Collaboration Manage and mentor AI interns or junior engineers. Collaborate with the backend, product, and compliance teams to ensure smooth deployment. Contribute technical insights to investor discussions, client demos, and partnerships. Required Skills & Experience Strong background in Machine Learning / Computer Vision / NLP. Proven experience with tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, Scikit-learn, and Hugging Face . Proficiency in Python (FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks). Experience with OCR, facial recognition, and biometric matching systems. Understanding of cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and API deployment. Knowledge of KYC, AML, or credit scoring workflows is a major plus. Strong understanding of data privacy and compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA, or regional equivalents) . Excellent written and spoken English (required). Self-starter mentality with experience working in fast-paced startups or early-stage environments. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in fintech, regtech, or AI-based infrastructure companies. Experience leading small technical teams or AI research groups.
