Responsabilités
About the Project This study focuses on assessing the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a leading cause of cervical cancer, which accounts for more than 80% of cases in low- and middle-income countries (Mics). The World Health Organization (WHO) advises HPV vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 to prevent infection. Zambia incorporated HPV vaccination into its national immunization program in 2019, currently administering the vaccine to 9-year-old girls in a single-dose regimen. Despite these efforts, the efficacy, cost-effectiveness, and practicality of HPV pulse vaccination remain unverified. This research will investigate HPV pulse vaccination in Zambia, in partnership with the national immunization program and international collaborators. While the national program will oversee the intervention’s execution (including vaccine distribution), the study team will assess the feasibility, acceptability, effectiveness, expenses, and cost-efficiency of pulse vaccination while documenting the HPV Pulse Zambia initiative. The primary goal is to produce strong evidence on the impact, costs, and cost-effectiveness of pulse vaccination, as well as the factors influencing successful implementation in Zambia. The key objective is to evaluate the effect of HPV pulse vaccination on vaccination coverage, with additional aims to be determined. Evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of HPV pulse vaccination strategies, assess incremental delivery costs and cost-effectiveness, model the health and economic impact using empirical data alongside epidemiological simulations (HPV sim), and compile key implementation lessons.
