Job description: Overall Job Purpose The Maintenance Coordinator for the Drills section will be instrumental in driving the seamless and efficient execution of maintenance tasks for drilling equipment. This position encompasses strategic planning, coordination, and supervision of maintenance activities, guaranteeing strict adherence to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications, established quality benchmarks, and rigorous safety protocols. Furthermore, the role will encompass budget oversight and financial analysis to streamline maintenance operations, minimize expenses, and uphold equipment dependability. Specific Job Responsibility The position entails a diverse range of responsibilities to be undertaken by the incumbent, including: Collaborate with planners to design and implement comprehensive maintenance schedules for drilling equipment, aimed at reducing downtime and enhancing reliability. Develop all work execution packages—comprising work instructions, inspection protocols, and test plans (Its)—in strict adherence to OEM specifications. To maintain service sheets as active and up-to-date resources, collaborate with the reliability team to ensure continuous updates, enabling the detection and prevention of failure modes that lead to breakdowns. Collaborate with technical advisors, supervisors, mechanics, and OEM contractors to confirm the availability of all necessary tools, materials, and resources before initiating any maintenance task. Provide technical support to Technical Advisors and Supervisors by troubleshooting issues in accordance with the Triggered Actions Response Plan whenever equipment malfunctions persist for more than two hours. Ensure that any major component failures or breakdowns exceeding four hours are documented in a failure report that identifies the root causes and specifies the necessary corrective actions. Ensure strict compliance with the defined scope of work, established quality benchmarks, and scheduled timelines for mechanical and electrical maintenance activities on drilling equipment. Attend kickoff, work, and pre-inspection meetings, as well as toolbox meetings, training sessions, and improvement programs when necessary. Ensure that all mandatory statutory inspections for equipment within the designated scope are conducted and maintained in a current status. Maintain accurate and current documentation in all designated log books within the assigned area. Assist in formulating the maintenance budget by incorporating OEM-recommended maintenance schedules and reviewing historical maintenance data. Oversee the comparison of actual expenditures against the established budget, pinpointing any variances and implementing corrective measures as needed. Evaluate processes to uncover cost-saving measures while upholding safety standards and ensuring the reliability of equipment, all achieved through enhancements in maintenance efficiency. Collaborate effectively with procurement and supply chain teams to secure spare parts and materials at the most advantageous costs while maintaining optimal inventory levels. Maintain precise and timely completion of all maintenance records, work orders, and inspection sheets. To facilitate the accurate execution or planning of corrective actions, gather and document all necessary information using the established work request and/or defect notice processes. Create a culture that prioritizes ongoing learning and professional growth, motivating team members to actively engage in training programs and skill enhancement activities. Confer with departing or incoming crews to review potential safety hazards and concerns, ongoing tasks from preceding shifts, the advancement of mining plans, and the current status of work within the schedule. Engaging in both on-the-job and off-the-job training initiatives and learning experiences is required. You should exhibit a keen enthusiasm and proactive willingness to engage with all equipment and contribute to the company’s overarching objectives. “Engage actively in safety enhancement and continuous improvement programs to foster a secure and progressive work environment.” Job Specific Competencies Demonstrates advanced expertise in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in CMMS platforms, particularly Pronto, is strongly preferred. Possesses comprehensive expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems specifically related to drilling equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in budget management and cost control strategies specific to maintenance operations. Proven capability to effectively rank tasks by evaluating equipment criticality, safety risks, and operational consequences. Seasoned professionals should possess a strong background in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies and maintenance management system workflows. Accomplished professionals must demonstrate a strong track record in overseeing financial stewardship, particularly in budget administration and expenditure monitoring within maintenance environments. Qualifications Required qualifications include a diploma or degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. A proven academic or professional credential in the fields of reliability engineering, maintenance planning, or quality control is required. A valid driver’s license and active membership in a recognized engineering institution, such as the Engineering Institute of Zambia (LIZ), are required.
