Background

Vétérinaires Sans Frontières - Germany (VSF Germany) is a non-governmental, non-profit making international Organization, engaged in the field of veterinary relief and development work providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. With support in animal health, agriculture, marketing, and food safety, VSFG works towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities. VSF Germany implements activities in Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Somalia.

Experience

VSF Germany seeks to recruit qualified and well experienced staff for the position of Field Driver (1 Position). To be based at VSF Germany office at the field location Kapoeta East (100%), South Sudan. The holder of this position will have an overall environmental and social safeguards oversight for all projects implemented in South Sudan Country Program under VSF Germany. Determined by the level of experience as assessed during the recruitment process. Female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Under the guidance and supervision of the project Manager and field Admin and finance officer, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the VSF Germany staff officials and visitor ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of driving vehicle handling and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provision of reliable and secure driving services to the Staffs Properly check oil, tire lights, water, petrol, nuts, brakes and tools. Ensures that the vehicle is clean and tidy at all times. Use the vehicles only when the trip is authorized by concerned supervisor. Secures vehicle equipment and ensures that the vehicle is securely placed with locking devices at all times. Ensures regular vehicle service and other maintenances on time as required. Maintain records of vehicle usage (including fuel consumption, mileage, and trip logs). Understanding of the organization vehicle utilization guidelines and country traffic law. Responsible for daily up-keep and cleaning of project vehicles, scheduling and follow up routine maintenance activities. Ensuring readiness of the vehicle for transport service by checking oil, water, fuel, tires and other parts of the vehicle prior to driving. Perform project routine business, such as receiving and delivering official project documentation Drive VSF-Germany personnel to their project areas as assigned.

Profile

Experience, Skills and Knowledge Requirements

Education / Diplomas

Secondary education completion having a valid driving license for the field vehicles. Minimum of 4 years’ work experience as a light vehicle driver.

Required Skills

Safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in basic vehicle repair tasks. At least 2 years of work experience with International/National NGO working environment. Good knowledge and work experience in the project area. Language Requirements: Fluent in Toposa language and fair in Arabic and English.
