Expérience

The NCD and RMNACH Research Manager will be based in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda, with regular travel to Kirehe district, reporting to the Director of the NCD Program. This position oversees a team of data collectors and junior researchers while leading high-impact research initiatives within non-communicable disease (NCD) and reproductive, maternal, neonatal, adolescent, and child health (RMNACH) programs. With a focus on scientific excellence and practical application, the role ensures rigorous study design, ethical compliance, and seamless integration with clinical and programmatic teams. Key responsibilities include designing and executing research projects, developing protocols and data tools, monitoring progress against timelines and budgets, and supervising data collection and analysis. The role demands strong leadership in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, mentorship of research staff, and fostering a culture of evidence-based practice. Additionally, the position oversees quality improvement initiatives, translates findings into actionable insights, and leads dissemination efforts through reports, manuscripts, and presentations to stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health. Candidates must hold an advanced degree in public health, nursing, medicine, global health, social science, or a related field, with at least five years of global health research experience. Proficiency in research design, mixed-methods studies, scientific writing, team supervision, and data analysis software (e.g., STATA, R, SPSS, MAXQDA, NVivo, or REDCap) is essential. Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda, along with a commitment to rural living and cross-site collaboration, is required. The ideal candidate embodies PIH/IMB’s core values—compassion, integrity, mutual respect, honesty, togetherness, dignity, and solidarity—while upholding rigorous ethical and safety standards in research.

  • •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
