The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program aims to expand Vital Strategies’ efforts in addressing lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries by collaborating with government agencies in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The initiative seeks to enhance health systems and build local capacity to implement cost-effective policies that mitigate childhood lead exposure. The Program Manager will lead technical and programmatic efforts to strengthen health systems in Rwanda, focusing on reducing lead poisoning and overseeing field research. The role requires providing epidemiological and programmatic expertise, including designing, implementing, and monitoring blood lead surveillance systems. The manager will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of environmental health scientists, epidemiologists, clinicians, public health professionals, and statisticians, as well as engage with high-level government officials. Key responsibilities include providing technical support to design and implement the lead poisoning prevention program, building the capacity of government and non-government staff, and standardizing surveillance procedures with ethical approval. The manager will train and monitor field surveillance teams, organize technical discussions, conduct journalist training, perform policy analysis, and facilitate training sessions for health officials, frontline workers, and other stakeholders. In stakeholder management, the manager will develop and maintain partnerships across health, environment, academic, and research sectors, serving as Vital Strategies’ key representative. For data management, they will monitor data collection, ensure quality control, and collaborate with senior epidemiologists to analyze and report surveillance data. The role also involves creating technical and non-technical reports, presentations, and summaries for policymakers and the public, as well as disseminating findings to promote data-driven policy and planning.
