Project Twazabuka The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive assistance to the project across all SHERI functions and will maintain a direct reporting line to the SHERI Manager. Key Responsibilities Conduct daily patrols of the work areas to identify and document any unsafe acts or conditions, subsequently reporting these findings to the project management and SHERI team. Perform routine health and safety assessments, such as Daily Safety Inspections (DSI), and facilitate near miss reporting procedures to minimize potential workplace hazards. Spearhead the implementation of Planned Task Observations (Pros) and Critical Control Verification (CCV) programs to reinforce adherence to 9 Critical Life Saving (CLS) Rules, thereby strengthening operational discipline and accountability. Evaluate Contractors’ Safety Files comprehensively to verify adherence to established standards, including method statements, risk assessments, safe work procedures, and project-specific HSE programs. Implement proactive measures to enhance safety performance by spearheading accident prevention programs and behavior-based safety campaigns. Effectively conveying individual responsibilities and roles to employees, stakeholders, and contractors is essential to upholding the commitments outlined in Zambia Sugar’s SHERI policy. Deliver Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) training programs, conduct toolbox talks, and lead behavior-based safety awareness sessions to reinforce a robust safety culture within the workforce. The ABF Integrated Risk Management System (ARMS) must be practically implemented and aligned with Group Level Guidelines (GLG) to ensure operational effectiveness at the site level through well-defined procedures. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships through constructive and logical communication approaches. Flexibility to accommodate varied schedules and rapid response to emergency situations are required. Promote and ensure strict adherence to ABCs policies, including SHERI, Food Safety, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC). QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Equivalent to a Grade 12 Certificate is required. A diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety is required, with candidates holding a degree in the field from a reputable institution viewed favorably. A BOSH Construction Certificate would be considered a valuable asset. Affiliated with the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (OHSA), the High-Performance Computing Zambia (HPCZ), or the Engineering Institution of Zambia (LIZ). A minimum of two years of safety-related experience in the agribusiness, manufacturing, construction, or mining sectors is required. Demonstrates strong business judgment in project management, with the capability to proactively anticipate and accurately interpret shifts that affect health and safety programs and methodologies. Proficiency in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems, with a preference for ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards, is required. Qualifications are confirmed through the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZARA).
