Background: The International Rescue Committee's (IRC) External Relations (ER) department enables the IRC to respond to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Within ER, the Philanthropy team leads on the organization’s work with High-Net-Worth Individuals and planned giving donors. Job Overview : The Senior Officer, Planned Giving, will work with donors and prospects in an assigned geography across the Eastern US to ensure an increased number of legacy gift commitments and a growing and engaged legacy society. Accountable for securing and sustaining planned gifts, they will work directly with prospects and donors and Philanthropy colleagues to ensure a healthy financial future for our humanitarian work. This may entail generating new leads; soliciting donors for planned gifts; building positive relationships to steward legacy donors; crafting and implementing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies to connect with and inspire planned giving donors and prospects; advising colleagues on collaborations; and reporting results of efforts. The Senior Officer will be expected to understand the needs of older donors and prospects, communicate and connect superbly with colleagues and supporters, use knowledge of various gift planning instruments to assist colleagues and donors, continue to learn about IRC programs, think strategically, offer creative solutions, and manage systems to grow and improve the IRC’s donor relationships and prospecting with high wealth individuals and families.

Additionally, the Senior Officer will be expected to work directly with other development officers, ER colleagues, and local area leadership to increase awareness about planned giving, create education opportunities, and collaborate on planned giving strategies and asks for appropriate donors across Major and Principal Giving portfolios in the East. Major Responsibilities: Develop and manage a large portfolio of planned gift prospects and donors. Provide timely follow-up to new marketing leads to educate prospects, creating new planned gifts for the IRC. Craft and implement meaningful engagement opportunities for planned giving donors and prospects to deepen their understanding of the mission and the benefits of legacy giving and gifts of complex assets. This includes an annual in-person stewardship event in NYC. Plan and execute regional donor trips, maximizing geographic clusters of donors and prospects Focus on high quality interactions during in person visits, events, , and digital and mail communications. Promote engagement with the IRC legacy society (Changemakers) to recognize and retain committed donors, including an annual in-person recognition event in NYC and other regional market events. Collaborate with Major Gifts and Principal Gifts colleagues to develop strategy and solicitation for planned gifts for appropriate prospects within their portfolios Collaborate across ER teams and IRC regional office leadership (RAI) to create greater understanding of planned giving’s role and process with the organization, including training and resource development Successfully meet individual goals for high quality meetings, prospect conversions, lead identification, and outright giving, in alignment with overall team goals. Continually review donor file data (Salesforce) to identify prospects and to balance portfolio Timely and accurately input opportunity data into Salesforce to drive pipeline activity, report on progress towards goals, and find areas of improvement.

Expérience

  • 6-8 years of experience working with individual donors on complex giving conversations.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies: Knowledge of and experience discussing planned giving vehicles and benefits highly preferred; Ability to communicate effectively with older donors about the IRC’s mission and planning tools; Ability to independently identify and focus on the highest priority tasks; Effective collaboration with colleagues at all levels across the organization; Highly computer literate including with Microsoft Office and CRM databases such as Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge; Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to timeframes; Commitment to respect and maintain confidentiality of donor information; Work successfully in a sophisticated, fast-paced organization. Driver’s license and ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including overnight travel, is required. Working Environment: This role is hybrid and requires the ability to work on-site in the NYC office. Ability to travel to see donors and prospects required. Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours. Compensation: (Pay Rate: $93,000-$110,000/yr). Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.
