Design Engineer
Contract Type: Full-time

Context: Safal Group opened its first manufacturing plant in Mombasa, Kenya, in 1962, rapidly expanding its presence to other East African countries and then Southern Africa. In 2003, all operating companies were consolidated under the current holding company, Safal Investments Mauritius Limited, and operate across Africa under the name Safal Group.
Main Objective of the Position: Collaborate with the sales team to define the scope details of new requests and the final details of confirmed orders.
Responsibilities:
Design steel structures for a diverse range of applications using the latest available technologies in structural design and analysis.
Specify appropriate materials in the design process based on structural specifications and codes of practice.
Liaise with drafters for the preparation of drawings for internal and external use.
Achieve department KPIs such as material efficiency (Kg/m²), design efficiency (hours/design, designs/day), and design errors (% of order) as required.
Meet design deadlines agreed with line managers to meet customer expectations.
Generate accurate bills of materials for pricing needs.
Generate comprehensive design calculation/analysis reports for all confirmed orders.
Verify details on drawings to ensure compliance with all design specifications.
Perform quality checks/random inspections for work in progress during manufacturing, if necessary.
Participate in coaching and training of new department recruits to ensure continuous improvement.
Any other related or relevant tasks that may be assigned.
Desired Profile:
Degree in civil engineering or equivalent from a reputable institution.
Proficiency in computer skills (MS Office).
Experience in the functional use of design spreadsheets and CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Prokon, Masterseries, and StaadPro.
2 to 3 years of professional experience in structural design and related projects.
