Candidate Requirements:

Advanced degree in computer science, data science, public policy, ethics, law, or related field

Minimum 8 years of experience in AI governance or digital governance

Experience in developing governance or risk frameworks

Experience in evaluating AI models and systems

Experience in complex, decentralized organizations

Strong stakeholder engagement skills

Expertise in AI ethics and regulatory landscapes

Understanding of machine learning systems and lifecycle risks

Familiarity with data governance and cloud architectures

Fluency in English

You would be responsible for developing, operationalizing, and continuously improving UNICEF’s AI governance framework, ensuring that all AI systems deployed across the organization are ethical, safe, transparent, privacy‑preserving, and aligned with child‑rights principles.

Key functions, accountabilities and related duties/tasks: 

Lead UNICEF’s AI Governance Framework

Risk Identification, Assessment & Mitigation

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have… 

Minimum requirements

        Education : Advanced university degree in computer science, data science, public policy, ethics, law, information security or related field.

        Work Experience : Minimum 8 years of experience in:

  • AI governance, responsible AI, algorithmic risk management or digital governance

  • Developing and enforcing governance or risk frameworks

  • Evaluating AI models and systems (technical and/or policy level)

  • Working in complex, decentralized organizations

  • Managing stakeholder engagement across technical and non-technical groups

Skills :

Expertise in AI ethics, governance, and regulatory landscapes

Strong understanding of machine learning systems, evaluation methods, and lifecycle risks

Familiarity with data governance, data protection, and cloud architectures

        Language Requirements : Fluency in English is required.

      Desirables

Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Machine Learning systems, Knowledge of humanitarian or development contexts.

Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
