Roles and Responsibilities – Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess patients’ visual acuity, refractive errors and general eye health. – Diagnose and manage common optometric conditions, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. – Perform appropriate clinical eye tests to identify visual abnormalities and potential eye disorders. – Prescribe corrective lenses, spectacles and other appropriate vision correction solutions based on patients’ examination results. – Screen patients for eye conditions associated with systemic diseases, particularly diabetes and hypertension. – Identify signs of serious ocular conditions and refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists for further evaluation and treatment. – Provide counselling and education on eye health, vision care, preventive practices and proper use of corrective lenses. – Monitor patients’ progress through follow-up examinations and adjust prescriptions where necessary. – Maintain accurate patient eye examination records, prescriptions and clinical reports. – Ensure proper handling, maintenance and appropriate use of optometric equipment and examination instruments. Requirements – Relevant academic and professional qualifications for the position applied for. – Valid professional registration and practising licence, where applicable. – Relevant working experience will be an added advantage. – Strong communication skills, professionalism and commitment to quality patient care.
