Field Officer

Location: Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Dowa District, Malawi Deadline: Tuesday, 15 September, 2026 GOOD NEIGHBORS MALAWI Good Neighbors Malawi (GNM) is an international humanitarian and development organization with UN ECOSOC General Consultative Status. They are implementing the Project for Strengthening Food Crisis Response and Community Resilience through Livelihood Support in Dzaleka Refugee Camp. ABOUT THE ROLE The Field Officer will support the Field Manager in implementing day-to-day agricultural and community-based field activities. The role involves mobilizing beneficiaries, facilitating trainings, supporting agricultural infrastructure, monitoring field progress, and collecting data. The position contributes to improving food production, strengthening agricultural skills, and promoting peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities. The Field Officer will be based in or near Dzaleka Refugee Camp and will work closely with the Field Manager, Project Manager, Technical Manager, and other partners including community leaders and beneficiary groups. KEY REQUIREMENTS Education: Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, or a closely related field. Experience: At least 3 years of field-based experience in agricultural development or food security projects. Experience working directly with smallholder farmers in humanitarian or refugee settings is highly desirable. Skills: Strong technical knowledge in smallholder farming systems, post-harvest practices, and sustainable agriculture. Fluency in English and Chichewa (spoken and written) is required. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Mobilize refugee and host community beneficiaries for farming plot establishment and allocation. Monitor irrigation infrastructure, report maintenance needs, and coordinate repairs. Facilitate distribution of agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers, tools) and maintain accurate records. Support farmer trainings on post-harvest handling, pest management, and food safety. Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop progress and identify risks. Organize capacity-building trainings and Training of Trainer sessions for Lead Farmers. Support HDP-N farming club operations, including mobilization, recordkeeping, and demonstration plot management. Facilitate market linkages, produce aggregation, and promote climate-smart agricultural practices. Collect field data on crop performance, attendance, and training participation. Prepare weekly and monthly field activity summaries. Engage with community leaders, extension workers, and other stakeholders. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, and donor guidelines. Perform any other duties assigned by line managers.
