St Andrew's School, Turi, is a prestigious international Christian boarding school in Kenya, offering a British Curriculum education to approximately 550 pupils. The school is divided into two semi-autonomous sections: a Preparatory School for children aged 3 to 13 and a Senior School for students aged 13 to 18. We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Syce/Groom and Riding Assistant to join our Equestrian Department.
This full-time position is ideal for someone passionate about horse care, enjoys working with young people, and thrives in a supportive team environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care and management of horses, including mucking out stables, feeding, grooming, and monitoring their health. You will also assist in riding lessons and hacks, lead horses and ponies, and support instructors to ensure the safety and enjoyment of students during equestrian activities.
In addition, you will maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the stable yards, tack rooms, and equipment, assist with paddock and arena upkeep, and perform general yard tasks. You will work collaboratively with colleagues, covering duties when needed, and assist the farrier and veterinary team as required. The working hours are five weekdays on a split shift (7:00am to 11:00am and 2:00pm to 6:00pm) plus one weekend day per week (6:30am to 9:00am and 3:00pm to 5:30pm). Additional overtime may be available.
Applicants must be competent riders in all gaits (walk, trot, canter, and gallop) and confident handling a variety of horses and ponies. Experience in daily horse care and management is essential. You should be comfortable working with children and young people in a riding school environment and be a positive team player. The ideal candidate will be passionate about horse welfare, patient, calm, and professional around children, hardworking, dependable, and punctual, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
