CBM (registered as CBM Christoffel-Blindenmission Christian Blind Mission e.V.) is an international development organisation committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in their communities. Based on our Christian values and more than 100 years of professional expertise, we address poverty as a cause and a consequence of disability. We work in partnership to create an inclusive society for all.

We are currently seeking a Country Director for our Uganda office. In this role, you will manage the organisation’s operations, leading a country programme with an operational scope typically ranging between USD 3–10 million. You will ensure quality delivery across all stages of programme development and implementation, with a focus on strategic programming opportunities that strengthen CBM’s relevance and reach. You will also strengthen CBM’s presence in the country and represent the organisation to donors, government authorities, partners, the media, and local communities to maintain a strong and credible organisational profile. This includes coordinating the Board and the Annual General Assembly (where applicable) in line with Uganda and CBM’s governance requirements.

This is a locally recruited position, subject to the terms and conditions applicable in Uganda. Expatriation is not intended.

Your responsibilities will include:

Fulfilling the role of Country Director to deliver CBM’s Disability and Inclusive Development work in the country. Leading the development and effective implementation of CBM’s Country Plan and its operational requirements, ensuring high-quality performance and alignment with CBM’s Federation strategy. Ensuring strong financial discipline within the Country Office and working with partners to meet all operational and financial reporting requirements. Identifying programme opportunities and areas where the organisation can demonstrate its value and relevance. Promoting CBM’s vision and Country Plan to external stakeholders, including through the development of effective relationships with other organisations. Representing CBM to partners, local and national governments, other development organisations, voluntary agencies, in-country media, donor agencies, and local communities to influence the country’s development agenda towards inclusion and poverty alleviation. Establishing and maintaining a high-quality workforce. Carrying out other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Regional Hub Director.

Your qualifications:

At least 10 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior management role within an INGO or international development organisation, preferably in the disability, development, or related sectors. Proven experience in strategic planning and oversight of complex programmes and projects. Significant experience in organisational development, change management, and capacity building. Strong financial management expertise, including budgeting, financial controls, compliance, and institutional grant management. Demonstrated success in advocacy, partnership development, strategic alliance building, and influencing policy change.

Excellent people leadership skills, including coaching, team development, delegation, performance management, and conflict resolution in multicultural environments. Strong communication, representation, and stakeholder engagement skills, including experience engaging with donors, government authorities, and other external stakeholders.

Ability to work diplomatically and effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, professional, and personal backgrounds. Identification with the Christian values and mandate of CBM.

What we offer:

A meaningful position with a lot of creative freedom in the world's leading organisation in the field of Disability Inclusive Development. A fair salary and other social benefits based on the local conditions in the country you apply for. An approachable, agile organisation with self-reliant people in a diverse and collegial team and great team spirit.

  • •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
  • •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
  • •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
  • •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
  • •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
  • •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
