Regional Compliance Manager

Welthungerhilfe is seeking a Regional Compliance Manager to join its Regional Directorate for East & Southern Africa. This position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year and very good prospects for extension. The role is based in one of the following country locations: Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, or Malawi.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing Welthungerhilfe's corporate compliance affairs across the region, providing functional leadership to compliance officers and focal points in program countries. This includes overseeing fraud and corruption prevention, conflicts of interest, sanctions screening, data protection, safeguarding, and handling sensitive complaints. The role involves implementing and strengthening the Corporate Compliance Management Program, ensuring effective 'prevent, detect, respond' processes are in place across country offices.

Key responsibilities include delivering compliance training to country office staff and partners, maintaining training records, ensuring sensitive complaints are channelled through the global Complaints Response Mechanism, and initiating or overseeing investigations of sensitive compliance cases. The Regional Compliance Manager will collaborate closely with Legal & Compliance at Head Office and other relevant functions such as HR, IT, Finance, Supply Chain, and Project Management. Additionally, the role provides strategic advice to Regional Management and Country Directors on compliance matters and represents Welthungerhilfe in external expert meetings and networks where appropriate.

Candidates should hold a university degree in Law, Management, Administration, Audit, Finance/Accounting, or a related field, and have at least five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a similar role. Sound knowledge of corporate compliance and compliance risk management is essential, along with an understanding of the humanitarian context and experience working in multicultural environments.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, with the ability to establish, maintain, and improve processes and confidently use relevant tools and methods. Experience in training and capacity building is important, as are excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills. A high level of integrity, initiative, self-organization, attention to detail, teamwork, and resilience under pressure is expected. Excellent command of written and spoken English is mandatory. Candidates should recognize the growing value of data in their field and be eager to build awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into their work. Willingness and ability to travel within country project areas is also required.

The successful candidate will be employed under the national terms and conditions and salary structure applicable to their respective duty station. This position does not provide for international relocation or work permit/visa sponsorship.
