Ishasha Sector Manager, QEPA Wildlife Conservation Society Ishasha Sector, QEPA, CMP Main Office We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team within a nonprofit organization with a strong focus on sustainable development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in project management, grant writing, or community outreach, and must demonstrate a commitment to social impact and environmental sustainability. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team are essential. Responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic programs, securing funding through grant applications, fostering stakeholder relationships, and overseeing project deliverables to ensure alignment with organizational goals. Description The successful candidate will report directly to the Steering Committee, ensuring alignment with its strategic directives and organizational objectives. This role requires close collaboration with committee members to provide updates, gather feedback, and execute decisions in a timely and efficient manner. Oversee direct reports including Department Heads, the Law Enforcement Advisor, the Finance Coordinator, and additional personnel as business needs dictate. Country Program/Sector: Uganda, where the Wildlife Conservation Society operates. We are seeking a full-time candidate to join our team, offering a stable and dedicated work schedule. The ideal applicant must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with a commitment to consistent, reliable performance. This role is designed for individuals who thrive in a structured environment and require a full-time position to fully engage with their professional responsibilities. Scope/Capacity: The designated area of operation encompasses the Sasha Sector within Uganda, where the position will be based. Coordinates with: WCS Uganda, EAMWIO Region team, APAMU team, CWT Program, QEPA senior management Job Purpose The Sector Manager will lead the management of the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth Protected Area, under a new Collaborative Management Partnership (CMP) between WCS and UWA. The Ishasha Sector Manager will be responsible for oversight of daily operations, resource allocation, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and building and maintaining a high performing team of staff across sector departments. He/she will also need to coordinate and liaise regularly with partners and stakeholders. This position provides a unique opportunity to scale up operations in one of Uganda’s premier protected areas, resulting in an effective and adaptive species recovery and habitat management program, that enhances tourism and benefits to local communities, and the long-term sustainability of the Ishasha sector. Major Responsibilities

Localisation

  • Lead the daily management of the Ishasha Sector through the direction of the Sector Management Unit (SMU), including the direct supervision and coordination of departments, administrative, operational and technical teams, allocation of resources, liaison and coordination with partners and stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of a Sector Management Plan (SMP) for the Ishasha Sector, aligned with the QEPA General Management Plan, along with annual workplans and budgets.
  • Conduct Sector Management Unit meetings on a monthly basis, or more frequently as needed, to facilitate comprehensive planning, strategic prioritization, stakeholder alignment, and seamless interdepartmental coordination, ensuring the successful execution of the GMP. Oversee and manage Sasha staff while fostering a culture of excellence, professionalism, and accountability to consistently meet site objectives. Drive performance by motivating employees to uphold high standards and achieve optimal results, ultimately ensuring both organizational goals and staff job satisfaction are met. Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports, work plans, and budgets to the Steering Committee, detailing activities, deliverables, and implementation challenges while offering recommendations on staff performance, discipline, training, and career development as required. Provide administrative support to the Steering Committee by serving as the secretariat for its meetings. Support proposal development and funding initiatives while ensuring timely reporting and adherence to donor regulations. Implement the monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework in Sasha to maintain compliance and effectiveness.
  • Promote the integration of human rights principles into conservation strategies across the Sasha region, ensuring alignment with international standards and best practices.

Evaluate and mitigate risks affecting Sasha operations, with a strong emphasis on developing and implementing contingency plans for security, financial, logistical, and operational vulnerabilities. Oversee consultants and contractors as needed, guaranteeing the punctual delivery of services while maintaining exceptional quality standards. Coordinate critical stakeholder collaborations and engagements specifically within the Sasha sector. Performs additional responsibilities as needed to support operational objectives and fulfill team requirements. Qualification Requirements
