Solidaridad East and Central Africa, a non-governmental organization committed to sustainable and inclusive development, is seeking a Regional Communications Manager to lead its communications, marketing, visibility, and storytelling agenda across East and Central Africa. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role is based in the region and offers a unique opportunity to shape how the organization communicates its impact, strengthens its brand, and brings its work to life for key audiences.
The successful candidate will be a strategic communicator and compelling storyteller who can translate complex ideas, programme evidence, and results into powerful content that inspires engagement and action. They will build organizational visibility and reputation across digital, media, and other influential platforms, while positioning leaders and technical experts as credible voices. Working across countries, programmes, and teams, the Regional Communications Manager will translate organizational priorities into compelling stories for donors, partners, governments, businesses, media, and other stakeholders. They will also support programme and PMEL teams to turn learning into impactful products, and partner with Business Development and leadership to develop strong institutional communications and positioning content.
Key responsibilities include leading the regional communications, marketing, and visibility strategy; strengthening brand positioning and external reputation; driving strategic storytelling and thought leadership; managing digital, media, and external communications; advising senior leadership on messaging and positioning; supporting resource mobilization and institutional communications; transforming programme evidence into accessible communications; strengthening internal communications; providing functional leadership and quality assurance; and managing communications resources and reputational risk.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related discipline (a Master's degree is an advantage), with 8–10 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, development communications, or a related field. At least 3 years' experience in a managerial, regional, or strategic communications role is required, along with proven experience in developing and implementing multi-country communications strategies, strong content development and storytelling skills, and experience in digital communications, media engagement, and thought leadership. Experience strengthening organizational brand and positioning, supporting donor and business development communications, and advising senior leadership on reputational matters is essential. Experience working across multiple countries and cultures is highly desirable, and experience in international development, sustainability, agriculture, climate, or related sectors is an added advantage.
