The Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST), tasked with procuring, warehousing, supplying, and distributing high-quality, affordable, and approved medicines and medical supplies to all public health facilities across Malawi, is seeking dynamic and forward-thinking professionals to strengthen its operational capacity in Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and Blantyre. One such role is the Pharmacist-in-Charge, based in Lilongwe (Job Grade: MS4), reporting directly to the Branch Manager (MS3) while overseeing a Pharmacist (MS5). This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring pharmaceutical operations within the warehouse—including inbound and outbound logistics—are conducted in full compliance with regulatory standards and operational best practices. Key responsibilities include enforcing adherence to the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority Act, relevant regulations, and Good Warehousing and Distribution Practices; supervising warehouse processes to enhance efficiency; and guaranteeing real-time accuracy of inventory transactions within the ERP system. The role also entails securely managing documentation for receipts, orders, and shipments; coordinating third-party logistics providers for cost-effective last-mile distribution; collaborating with the Finance Department to ensure precise customer billing; and advising management on inventory trends and stock movements. Additionally, the Pharmacist-in-Charge will maintain, optimize, and ensure the safety of warehouse facilities, equipment, and material-handling systems; develop, implement, and sustain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); assess and address staff training needs; and prepare work plans, budgets, and performance evaluations for subordinate staff. Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution, possess a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent, and be registered with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA). A postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline is advantageous. Applicants should demonstrate at least five years of progressive experience in a high-volume pharmaceutical warehouse setting, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), knowledge of ERP systems, exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, and strong analytical capabilities.
