Role Outline
The Transport Lead is responsible for overseeing daily transport operations to ensure the safe, compliant, cost-effective and efficient movement of goods. The role leads transport teams, manages fleet performance, ensures adherence to customer service requirements, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational performance, safety and productivity.
About the role key duties and responsibilities
Lead and coordinate daily transport activities to meet customer and business requirements. Monitor fleet utilisation and optimise vehicle routing, load planning and vehicle allocation. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Monitor driver progress and address unforeseen challenges or deviations from plan promptly. Use transportation management systems and tracking tools to monitor shipments and vehicles in real time. Ensure on-time collection and delivery of shipments. Resolve operational issues and service disruptions promptly. Supervise transport controllers, planners, drivers and support staff. Conduct daily operational briefings and performance reviews. Develop employee capability through coaching, mentoring and training. Promote a positive safety culture and employee engagement. Ensure service levels meet or exceed contractual customer expectations. Oversee vehicle availability, utilization, maintenance and compliance. Monitor transport costs, including fuel, maintenance, labor and subcontractor expenses. Identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities without compromising safety or service delivery. Manage the performance of transport-related suppliers and contractors. Ensure compliance with transport legislation, road safety regulations and company policies. Ensure drivers hold valid licenses and permits and complete required training. Ensure loads depart within the agreed dispatch window and control delivery documents, keys, GPS devices, fuel cards and mobile phones. Coordinate resolution of delivery issues with customer service and relevant stakeholders. Maintain accurate transport records and operational documentation.
About you
Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field; relevant professional qualification.

The Transport Administrator provides administrative and operational support to transport operations, ensuring efficient coordination of vehicles, drivers, documentation, compliance and reporting. The role supports smooth day-to-day transport activities, service delivery and cost-control objectives.
About the role key duties and responsibilities
Coordinate daily transport activities. Ensure transport records are complete, accurate and properly filed. Maintain documentation for audit and compliance purposes. Track vehicle licensing, insurance and permit renewals. Assist in managing driver's timesheets and payroll inputs. Update fleet databases and transport management systems. Ensure compliance with transport regulations and company policies. Monitor fleet performance, availability and utilization. Identify discrepancies and escalate them for resolution. Support investigations into accidents and transport incidents. Promote a positive safety culture and employee engagement. Track traffic violations, fines and corrective actions. Generate daily, weekly and monthly transport reports. Ensure fleet compliance with regulatory and company standards. Monitor axle-load and weighbridge compliance requirements.
