Learn more about our Vision, purpose, values – AngloGold Ashanti POSITION Geologist 2 – Exploration Technical DEPARTMENT Geology/ Exploration LOCATION Geita Gold Mine Tanzania EMPLOYMENT STATUS Full Time OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE Design project-based exploration work plans and programs, then oversee their execution while providing technical interpretation and geological modeling. Regularly integrate geological data to consolidate, rank, and evaluate targets both within and beyond GGM concessions, adhering to management directives. Ensure the availability of necessary resources to complete assigned tasks, manage the responsibilities of subordinates as well as any casual or temporary staff, and submit periodic feedback and progress reports to the Geologist 3 – Exploration or the Exploration Superintendent to facilitate resource additions and conversions to reserves. ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of the exploration process map, which outlines the hazards and risks inherent to exploration work programs. We are responsible for overseeing and accelerating the execution of departmental safety operating procedures and checklists, while also evaluating and adjusting them in response to evolving operational conditions and specific requirements. Leverage your expertise to inspire and enhance safety outcomes across the exploration team and Geology Department, fostering a culture of compliance with established safety key performance indicators. Demonstrate work behaviors that align with the company’s Safety Visions and Values while operating within established guidelines. Ensure all injuries, illnesses, and incidents are reported without delay. Coordinate the activities of junior geologists and field teams to optimize resource utilization in alignment with exploration work programs. Develop short-term exploration programs that establish the foundation for the annual exploration budget and create execution plans designed to enhance geological understanding while achieving project objectives. Supervise the implementation of approved reconnaissance and resource conversion drilling programs in designated project areas, as instructed by the Exploration Manager or For. Analyze and interpret geological data to develop detailed 3D geological models that identify prospective targets, guide subsequent follow-up activities, and enhance resource modeling efforts. Conduct comprehensive geological mapping, meticulously log and sample geological features, and perform rigorous data quality assessments to ensure alignment with the objectives outlined in the Annual Exploration Strategies. Prepare and submit comprehensive exploration reports that detail the findings from active work programs, along with strategic recommendations for future initiatives. Facilitate the professional growth and skill enhancement of team members by providing targeted training, individualized mentorship, and ongoing coaching to ensure continuous development and improved performance. Conduct weekly meetings with drilling contractors to evaluate their performance and the quality of services rendered.
- Responsibly oversee and document daily and weekly expenditure levels for exploration drilling initiatives within designated projects, promptly relaying financial insights and variances to the Exploration Manager for informed decision-making. Conduct personal performance appraisals, including those for direct reports, and ensure they are submitted for review and alignment within the specified timeframe. ROLE REQUIREMENTS Education & Qualification
A Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or an Advanced Diploma, or higher, is required. Experience With a minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience in mineral exploration, particularly within the gold sector, and exposure to diverse geological settings, the ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation to the role. Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency in the Tanzanian Mining Act 2010, including its 2017 amendments.
- Understanding of ISO45001:2018 and ISO14001:2015. Proficiency with computer-aided software platforms such as ArcGIS, Data mine, or Leapfrog is required. Demonstrates proficiency in analyzing geological data and constructing accurate 3D geological models. Proficient in contemporary exploration techniques and technologies, with a thorough understanding of their practical applications. Proficient knowledge of mineralization systems specific to Greenstone Belts is essential for effectively directing the exploration process. Demonstrates proficiency in cultivating and enhancing the abilities and expertise of team members by providing structured training, ongoing mentorship, and personalized coaching.
