Job Purpose The Mechanical Fitter will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and undertake the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of mechanical equipment to sustain continuous production operations. The position will emphasize reducing equipment downtime via preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to safety, GMP, and food safety regulations. . Key Responsibilities Conduct routine, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks on manufacturing machinery to ensure optimal operational performance. Install, remove, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and systems to ensure optimal functionality and safety. Diagnose and rectify mechanical malfunctions to ensure equipment is restored to full operational capacity in a timely manner. Conduct regular assessments of conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors, pumps, compressors, elevators, and all other production-related machinery to ensure operational integrity. Replace any worn or damaged mechanical components and verify correct alignment and fitment. Responsibilities include providing support for machinery installation, commissioning, and relocation initiatives. Collaborate closely with the Production Department to proactively reduce equipment downtime and maintain optimal operational efficiency. Ensure all maintenance activities adhere strictly to safety regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and food safety standards. Prepare maintenance work orders and ensure meticulous documentation of maintenance activities for accurate record-keeping. Proactively analyze patterns in equipment malfunctions to develop and propose sustainable solutions for eliminating recurring issues. Ensure adherence to high standards of housekeeping while actively promoting and executing 5S methodologies throughout the workshop and production areas. Provide support in identifying spare parts, managing inventory levels, and processing requisitions. Engage actively in ongoing enhancement efforts aimed at bolstering machine dependability and optimizing overall plant productivity. Adhere to established Lockout/Ragout (LOT) protocols and all corporate safety regulations while performing maintenance tasks. Qualifications & Key Requirements A qualification equivalent to a Craft Certificate, Diploma, or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Machining, or a closely related technical discipline is required. A minimum of three to five years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical Fitter within an FMCG or manufacturing setting is required. Professional Rewriting: Proven expertise in operating and maintaining a variety of production machinery, including conveyors, bucket elevators, packaging machines, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and pneumatic systems. Proficient understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance methodologies is essential. Proficient in analyzing and comprehending mechanical drawings and technical manuals with precision and accuracy. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with proficiency in welding and fabrication techniques. Proficient in adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles, and comprehensive food safety regulations within food production environments. Proven ability to diagnose issues efficiently and conduct thorough analysis of technical challenges. Demonstrates strong capacity to operate autonomously while effectively managing high-pressure situations. Proficiency in using computers is required for handling maintenance reporting and documentation tasks. Demonstrates flexibility to accommodate shift-based schedules and promptly address urgent equipment failures as needed.
