UK-Med, a frontline medical aid charity born of the NHS, has been working for over 30 years towards a world where everyone has access to the healthcare they need when crises or disasters strike. Our emergency responses are staffed through our Register of surge responders. Register members undergo extensive training and vetting in advance, enabling them to deploy quickly to where they are most needed. Those selected to join a response team are offered a fixed-term contract for the duration of the response and are paid in line with our globally benchmarked pay scales.
To expand our French-speaking Ebola staffing capacity and strengthen our preparedness for future outbreaks, we are seeking experienced French-speaking Medical Coordinators to join the UK-Med Register. These roles may support future Ebola preparedness and response activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other Francophone countries, depending on operational needs.
As a French-speaking Medical Coordinator, you will lead, guide and monitor the overall implementation of clinical activities across our humanitarian responses. UK-Med deploys health teams and temporary health facilities to humanitarian settings around the world. You will work closely with multidisciplinary clinical teams, Ministries of Health, national health authorities, humanitarian partners and other national and international stakeholders to ensure that healthcare services are relevant, technically sound and consistently delivered to a high standard.
You will provide technical oversight of the medical response, including clinical activities, technical advice, training and case management. You will ensure that all activities follow appropriate clinical standards, protocols and infection prevention and control measures, particularly within Ebola, viral haemorrhagic fever and other infectious disease response settings.
You will be an experienced manager and technical supervisor who can lead and support multidisciplinary clinical teams in complex, dynamic and potentially insecure environments. You will be accountable for key programmatic areas and will have strong experience assessing health needs and designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating emergency healthcare activities.
Our ideal candidates will have significant experience coordinating emergency health programmes in field-based humanitarian settings. Previous experience responding to Ebola, viral haemorrhagic fever, infectious disease outbreaks or other comparable health emergencies would be highly advantageous.
You will be confident communicating and working professionally in French with national colleagues, health authorities, communities and partners. You must also be able to communicate effectively in English with UK-Med colleagues and international stakeholders.
You will be determined, high-performing, compassionate and collaborative, with a strong commitment to learning and supporting the development of others.
Professional working proficiency in both French and English is essential. Applicants must be able to participate in the recruitment and assessment process in both languages.
We offer excellent learning and development opportunities, alongside the chance to contribute to international humanitarian responses as a member of the UK-Med Register.
Pay: GBP £5,000 to GBP £6,000 gross per month, dependent on experience and depending on deployment context, with up to 20% additional allowance for adverse conditions.
Hours: UK-Med Register role, no guarantee of any work, but if deployed work will be full-time.
Duration: Register members who deploy will be offered fixed-term contracts. The duration will depend on the requirements of the response, but most responses are around 6 weeks (plus occasionally with quarantine period if requirement of outbreak).
Location: Internationally and/or to any of the UK-Med responses.
