Keda Ceramics International Limited, a manufacturing company of ceramics tiles and sanitary ware located in Miwani, Kisumu County and sitting on 150 acres with its headquarters in Guangzhou, China, is seeking a Landscaper for a full-time position.
Job Purpose
The Landscaper is responsible for maintaining and improving the Company's gardens, lawns, trees, flower beds, landscaped areas and general outdoor grounds. The role involves carrying out routine landscaping and grounds maintenance activities to ensure that the Company's premises remain clean, attractive, orderly, safe and well maintained. The employee will also support the upkeep of outdoor areas around offices, factories, staff facilities, roadsides and other designated Company premises.
Key Responsibilities
Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance
Maintain lawns, gardens, flower beds, trees, shrubs and other landscaped areas within the Company's premises. Mow, trim and maintain grass to the required standard. Prune trees, shrubs and ornamental plants to promote healthy growth and maintain a neat appearance. Plant flowers, trees, grass and other suitable vegetation as directed. Prepare planting areas, including soil preparation, digging, levelling and application of approved manure or fertiliser. Remove weeds, unwanted vegetation and overgrown plants from designated areas. Maintain garden edges, pathways and landscaped areas in a neat and orderly condition. Support the establishment of new gardens, lawns and landscaped areas. Identify areas requiring landscaping improvement and report them to the supervisor.
Plant and Garden Care
Water lawns, flowers, trees and other plants as required. Monitor plants for signs of pests, disease, dryness or damage. Remove or replace dead, damaged or diseased plants as directed. Apply approved fertilisers, manure and other plant treatments as instructed. Use pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals only when authorised and in accordance with the Company's safety procedures. Ensure appropriate handling, storage and disposal of gardening chemicals and materials.
Operation and Care of Landscaping Equipment
Operate landscaping tools and equipment, including lawn mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, wheelbarrows, spades, rakes and other approved equipment. Carry out basic cleaning and routine care of landscaping tools and equipment. Check equipment before use and report defects, damage or unsafe conditions immediately. Ensure tools and equipment are safely stored after use. Use equipment only for its intended purpose and in accordance with operating instructions. Ensure that appropriate PPE is worn when operating machinery or carrying out potentially hazardous activities.
Grounds Cleanliness and Waste Management
Collect grass cuttings, leaves, branches, weeds and other garden waste. Ensure garden waste is disposed of in designated areas in accordance with Company procedures. Maintain cleanliness around landscaped areas, pathways and external facilities. Prevent garden waste from blocking drainage channels, walkways or access routes. Support general outdoor cleaning activities when required. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping within assigned areas.
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Comply with all Company health, safety and environmental requirements. Wear the required PPE when performing assigned duties. Follow safe working procedures when using machinery, tools, fertilisers, pesticides and other chemicals. Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, damaged equipment or environmental incidents immediately. Exercise caution when working near vehicles, machinery, electrical installations, production areas and other operational facilities. Maintain safe access to pathways, roads and other areas under the employee's responsibility. Avoid unauthorised use or handling of Company equipment and chemicals. Support the Company's environmental and workplace cleanliness initiatives. Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Degree in landscaping, horticulture, agriculture, gardening or a related field will be an added advantage. At least 1–5 years' experience in landscaping, gardening, horticulture, grounds maintenance or a related position. Experience in operating lawn mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers and similar equipment will be an added advantage. Previous experience in maintaining large commercial, institutional, residential or industrial compounds is desirable.
