About Kilimo Trust Ki limo Trust (KT), a not-for-profit organization, operates across the East African Community—comprising Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda—with a focus on agriculture-led development. As a trusted implementing partner, KT specializes in fostering inclusive and sustainable agricultural value chain development through market-driven approaches in the region. Ki limo Trust, in collaboration with AGRA, is executing the RE-GAIN Eastern Farmers (REEF) initiative, designed to enhance food security and foster sustainable agricultural practices in Eastern Uganda. The project focuses on boosting the adoption of food loss reduction strategies and climate-smart solutions among smallholder farmers by facilitating awareness campaigns, financing opportunities, market connections, and business development support. In this context, we are seeking qualified Village Based Agents (VBA) to deliver training to farmers, agricultural traders, and processors on effective Post Harvest Handling (PHH) techniques and the ways in which climate change exacerbates post-harvest losses. 2. The Assignment: This initiative seeks to strengthen food loss reduction efforts within the bean and maize value chains across Eastern Uganda, with a focus on the Sega and Bugs regions. By empowering farmers, agricultural traders, and processors with essential skills and expertise, the program will enhance post-harvest management practices. The goal is to improve both the quantity and quality of produce, minimize losses, and ultimately drive higher trade volumes. The allocation of positions varies across different districts, ensuring equitable representation and addressing localized staffing needs. Each district receives a designated number of vacancies based on factors such as population size, service demand, and operational requirements. This strategic distribution aims to optimize workforce deployment and enhance service delivery efficiency in all regions. Fluency in English and proficiency in local languages are essential, along with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions under tight deadlines. A degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field is required, and familiarity with regional regulations is advantageous. Kween The scope of work encompasses a comprehensive range of duties and responsibilities designed to achieve specific objectives. This includes executing detailed tasks, managing key projects, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The position requires adherence to established procedures, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality. The Village-Based Agents (VBA) must fulfill a range of responsibilities, including conducting community outreach, facilitating health education sessions, and ensuring the implementation of local development initiatives. They will collaborate with local leaders, government agencies, and community members to promote sustainable practices and improve access to essential services. VBA should possess strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and fluency in local languages to effectively engage with diverse populations. Additionally, they must maintain accurate records, submit timely reports, and adhere to organizational policies while demonstrating adaptability in dynamic environments. Prior experience in community development, health services, or related fields is preferred. Engage smallholder farmers in targeted catchment areas by organizing them into cohesive training groups, prioritizing deliberate outreach strategies to ensure the inclusion of women and youth. Train farmers—including youth and women—as well as agricultural traders and processors in post-harvest handling, enhanced crop management techniques (such as good agronomic practices and timely harvesting), and the effects of climate change on post-harvest losses for beans and maize, along with storage methods to reduce food waste. Offer translation services when necessary to facilitate clear communication among local participants. Using the Kobe Collect data tool, compile profiles of farmers who attended the training. Responsibilities include maintaining meticulous records of participant attendance, with specific attention to gender-disaggregated data and the adoption rates of the FL-RS system. Prepare and forward training reports to the field supervisor to consolidate data and facilitate monitoring and evaluation tracking. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of experience in software development. Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++ is required, along with experience with databases and cloud services. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment are essential. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and version control systems is preferred. Holder of a Certificate or Diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, or a related discipline, complemented by a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in agricultural extension services. Proven track record in delivering farmer training programs, with a particular emphasis on Food Loss Reduction Solutions, is required. c) Familiarity with strategies aimed at minimizing food loss specifically for maize and beans. Proficiency in community mobilization and engagement initiatives, with a focus on smallholder farmers, agricultural traders, and processors, is required. Proficient in conveying complex technical information clearly and effectively, using straightforward, locally relevant terminology to facilitate understanding. Fluent proficiency in at least one of the local languages, specifically Lualaba or Kupsabiny, is required. The applicant needs to reside within the designated district and must explicitly state their operational location in the application. Proficient in producing well-structured and detailed reports with clarity and precision. The assignment is scheduled to last for a specified period, with clear start and end dates to be mutually agreed upon by all involved parties. The position is scheduled for a one-month duration.
