In collaboration with governmental bodies, civil society organizations, development partners, and grassroots communities, Restless Development Zambia implements initiatives spanning five key thematic focus areas. We are seeking candidates with expertise in democracy, governance, and civic participation; youth livelihoods and economic empowerment; gender and education; climate justice; and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Restless Development Zambia operates under the guidance of an autonomous National Board, responsible for strategic direction, governance oversight, and accountability. This ensures the organization remains mission-driven, achieves excellence in program delivery, and maintains the highest standards of ethical and operational integrity. As an affiliate of the Restless Development global network, we operate through independently registered and governed country hubs spanning India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In partnership with the Youth Collective—a rapidly expanding international network of youth-led organizations with representation in more than 185 countries—we empower young people to drive transformative change and build a more equitable world. The ideal candidate will possess a relevant degree, proven experience in a similar role, and a strong commitment to public service excellence. Key responsibilities include overseeing project execution, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring alignment with national development goals. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate exceptional analytical and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment. The Zambia National Board of Restless Development serves as the organization’s governing authority, responsible for establishing strategic direction, exercising oversight, and ensuring accountability. The Board’s mandate includes maintaining the organization’s commitment to its mission, safeguarding financial sustainability, upholding ethical standards, and driving measurable impact for young people and communities throughout Zambia. Board Members contribute their expertise on a voluntary basis and typically convene quarterly, with ad hoc meetings scheduled as required. The Board collaborates closely with the Hub Director and the Leadership Team, offering strategic direction and governance oversight while bolstering the organization’s leadership effectiveness and ensuring its long-term sustainability. The responsibilities of the Zambia National Board include: Providing strategic leadership The successful candidate will steer the organization’s strategic vision and actively contribute to the execution of its strategic initiatives and priorities within Zambia. Providing governance oversight The successful candidate will facilitate the appointment of the Hub Director, monitor organizational performance, and ensure adherence to the organization’s values, policies, and statutory obligations. Providing financial oversight Your responsibilities will include examining and overseeing the organization’s yearly budgets, financial outcomes, adherence to regulatory requirements, and externally audited financial statements. We aim to enhance collaborations and elevate the organization’s reputation and visibility. Leveraging the professional networks of our members, we facilitate meaningful strategic engagements with governmental bodies, development collaborators, private sector entities, and other pivotal stakeholders. Supporting resource mobilisation Through facilitating access to funding avenues, offering expert guidance on resource acquisition strategies, and fostering the organization’s enduring sustainability, this role plays a pivotal part in driving growth and resilience. Time Commitment Board Members serve in a voluntary capacity, contributing actively to the governance and strategic vision of Restless Development Zambia. Key responsibilities include: Attending four quarterly Board meetings each year and the Annual Board Away Day Additionally, the role may involve participation in other meetings as needed. Serving in a capacity on one of the Board’s permanent subcommittees, you will be responsible for contributing to key discussions and decision-making processes integral to the organization’s governance. This role requires active participation in evaluating policies, reviewing strategic initiatives, and providing expert recommendations to the full Board. A strong understanding of governance principles and the ability to collaborate effectively with fellow committee members will be essential. Your insights will play a critical role in shaping the direction and oversight of the organization’s operations and long-term objectives. Programmes and Operations , People, Safeguarding and Governance , or Risk and Audit Additionally, you will be expected to attend meetings when necessary and contribute as required. Offering high-level strategic direction and supervision to the Hub Director and Leadership Team during intervals between Board meetings, as needed. We facilitate the organization’s resource mobilization initiatives by pinpointing potential prospects, fostering strategic connections, and advocating for the mission of Restless Development Zambia. Serving as a representative of Restless Development Zambia, you will embody the organization’s core values and enhance its reputation by leveraging both personal and professional connections. Serving as the organization’s representative at designated meetings, events, and stakeholder interactions, as deemed suitable. Board Members are required to allocate adequate time to prepare for meetings, examine Board materials beforehand, and engage meaningfully in discussions and decision-making processes. Professionals with substantial experience and a comprehensive grasp of Zambia’s development context are encouraged to apply.
