ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The UNESCO Office in Jordan works closely with the national authorities to preserve and promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the country. It particularly works in close collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Department of Antiquities, and the Ministry of Culture, as well as relevant national and local authorities, to ensure the sustainable conservation of the countryâs rich cultural heritage.
Through the currently implemented projects, the office is promoting sustainable socio-economic development in local communities, focusing on investing in cultural heritage preservation, contributing to decent livelihoods and offering short-term employment opportunities while also paving the way for longer term investments in cultural heritage preservation and sustainable local tourism development in As-Salt and other location sites in Jordan .
To support achieving the mentioned goals and to ensure the proper and timely finalization of the ongoing activities and projects at the culture unit in UNESCO Amman office, the office is recruiting an Associate Project Officer to assist in the regular follow-up and monitoring of ongoing rehabilitation and construction activities.
MAIN TASKS AND SERVICES
Under the general supervision of UNESCO Jordan Head of office and the direct supervision of the Culture Programme Specialist, and in coordination with the rest of the culture staff and the relevant Administrative and Financial staff.
Responsabilités
The Associate Project Officer's duties and responsibilities include, but are not restricted to:
Support in managing all project phases, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
Provide support to the implementation of rehabilitation and construction works currently implemented in different areas in Jordan, including coordination and site supervision.
Ensure regular follow up with UNESCOâs contractors to update the BoQs tables and ensure quality interventions as per the provided technical specifications and drawings.
Contribute to the assessment and monitoring of the executed works, and the preparation of documents and reports related to the project.
Conduct regular field visits to the project locations as necessary and when requested, to provide comprehensive site supervision, follow-up and management to the ongoing works, ensuring adherence to design requirements, construction specifications, safety and quality.
Review contractorsâ deliverables and reports, ensuring technical compliance with project specifications and signed contracts.
Anticipate difficulties and bottlenecks and address them proactively and in consultation with the supervisor.
Formation / DiplĂŽmes
Liaise with and facilitate information sharing amongst project partners, stakeholders and the local authorities, and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, partners, and donors.
Participate in technical meeting, and stakeholder meetings when and as needed, and draft minutes of meeting, official correspondence, and any other official documents in English, and maintain a record of documentation for the project.
Support in administrative tasks as needed and ensure proper project management where and when requested, including reviewing budget records and invoices.
Perform any other activities and tasks requested by the supervisor.

Management of works, monitoring and evaluation of the implemented activities.
Control over of quality, time schedule and project deliverables from consultants and contractors.
Coordination with consultants, contractors, partners and relevant stakeholders
Delivering progress reports within the project implementation phase
Regular communication with Programme Specialist and UNESCO team
DURATION OF THE CONTRACT
6-months contract (with a 3-monthsâ probation), extension of the appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and extension of the validity of the project and/or availability of the project fund.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Bachelorâs degree in the field of architecture, civil or structural engineering, or a related field.
Expérience
Minimum 5 years of experience in architecture, architectural conservation, structural engineering, cultural heritage rehabilitation or related fields.
Functional/Technical Competencies
Good (oral and written) communication skills, including the ability to draft and produce a variety of written material in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to analyze and collect, summarize, and analyze information from various sources.
Ability to read and interpret rehabilitation and construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
Broad knowledge of historical and traditional building materials and constructional methods used in the Middle East context and an ability to obtain quickly and up-to-date understanding and appreciation of specialist techniques and âbest practiceâ methods for maintaining, conserving and repairing historic structures, including the correct and effective use of materials and products.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Previous experience working with UN agency or international non-governmental organization, preferably in the field of Cultural Heritage, is an added value.
Previous experience with UNESCO or demonstrated understanding of UNESCOâs work is an added value
Site supervision experience is an added value.
