Koidu Government Hospital Koidu Town, Kono District, Sierra Leone Department: Operations Report to: Head Janitor, (KGH / MCOE) Requisition No Line Management Open to Applicants without Government Pin Codes Position Overview The Janitor is a key member of the Operations department in ensuring that our janitorial services are regularly maintained at KGH health facilities. The Janitor will work closely under the supervision of the Head Janitor to help provide janitorial support to our facilities, thereby creating a conducive and healthy friendly environment for all. The Janitor will be required to perform regular and daily cleaning activities in the Hospital according to PIH/MOHS standards and procedures in order to ensure hygiene and disinfection of materials and surfaces. The Janitor also checks on cleaning supplies and replenish stock; wipe down furniture using different cleaning products and strictly follow all IPC protocols. Under the general direction of the Head Janitor, cleans all areas of the hospital by performing routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors. Demonstrate ability to utilize the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
THIS IS A NATIONAL POSITION
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performing tasks related to hygiene and disinfection according to protocols applied in the service, knowing and applying specific hygiene protocols and security rules .This includes but are not limited to the following: Maintaining clean and disinfected, the infrastructures allocated to his/her position including the furniture, doors, walls and floor and some medical material (rooms of patients, of consultation, laboratory, operating theatre, delivery room, mortuary, waiting room, staff room, storage room, kitchen, bathroom and latrines) applying specific protocols and using the tools and equipment provided. Cleaning floors, equipment, beds, toilets and showers according to protocols and schedule Collecting and evacuating waste produced by medical structures to the designated site, previously sorted by medical staff and emptying out dustbins as often as necessary to ensure an efficient quality of care and safe environment Raising awareness on hygiene and sanitation measures amongst patients, visitors, staff, mothers to use correctly the water distribution points, latrines, hand washing points and washing areas in collaboration with the nursing and health promotion team. Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided. Ensuring availability of hygiene and sanitation products, and draws up orders for on-going needs.
Reporting any repair or maintenance work needed related to hygiene to the supervisor, as well as any relevant information related to his/her responsibilities Perform other departmental duties as assigned by the supervisor when the need arises Collaborate with other team members to achieve departmental objectives, maintaining good team spirit and interdepartmental objectives.
Education and Work Experience Requirements: Required: Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to teamwork and humanitarian principles Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn from others. Disciplined and ready to take the Janitor work seriously. Energy and stamina to withstand long working hours and often stressful condition. Familiar with Health care facilities environmental services is a plus.
At least 6 months of experience as a janitor in a health care facility, or a similar role, with hands-on implementation experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability and motivation to work on-site at healthcare facilities in rural Sierra Leone. Professional proficiency in Krio is required. Proficiency in English is an added advantage. Interest in social justice, healthcare, and a preferential option for the poor. Preferred: Previous experience working as a Janitor.
