Position: Underground Mine Sampler Department: Technical Services Reports To: Senior Geologist Employment Type: Full-Time Location: LC&Y Chillum Mine Plc, situated in Lufwanyama within the Copper belt region of Zambia Number of Positions: 1 Job Purpose Accurate and representative underground ore and waste samples must be collected in strict compliance with established company procedures and geological standards to facilitate grade control, resource evaluation, and mine planning, all while maintaining full adherence to mine safety regulations. Key Responsibilities Underground face, channel, chip, grab, and development samples must be collected in strict adherence to established sampling protocols. Ensure that all samples are accurately labeled, meticulously documented, and safely transported to the designated laboratory facility. Provide support to geologists in conducting underground geological mapping and sample collection initiatives. Accurately maintain comprehensive sampling records and associated documentation. Document and communicate any geological formations or irregularities observed below the surface. “Maintain sampling equipment in optimal working condition through regular care and maintenance.” Adhere strictly to all Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures established within the organization. Always don and maintain suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with safety protocols. Attend toolbox meetings, conduct safety inspections, and engage in emergency preparedness initiatives to uphold workplace safety standards. Other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Geology Department may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications Grade 12 School Certificate. A qualification in Mining, Geology, Mineral Processing, or a related discipline, such as a Certificate or Diploma, would be advantageous. A valid Underground Blasting or Mine Safety Training Certificate is highly beneficial. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience within underground mining environments is required, with a preference for roles involving sampling methodologies or geological support functions. Possesses expertise in underground sampling methodologies and grade control protocols. Proficient in interpreting subsurface diagrams and executing geological directives with precision. Capable of performing duties in physically demanding underground mining environments, with full physical fitness and capability.
