With a strong commitment to ethical data practices and compliance, Microsoft Rwanda offers a dynamic environment where professionals can shape the future of data protection in Africa. This role contributes directly to the company’s mission of building trustworthy technology, making it an exciting opportunity for those seeking impactful career opportunities in Rwanda.

Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead Microsoft Rwanda’s data protection strategy, ensuring compliance with Rwanda’s data protection regulations, the African Union’s data policies, and international standards such as GDPR and CCPA. The role involves developing privacy frameworks, conducting impact assessments, and advising business units on privacy‑by‑design principles. As a key member of the Data Protection & Governance department, you will work closely with legal, security, product, and engineering teams to embed privacy into every stage of the product lifecycle. This position offers a unique chance to influence policy, protect user data, and support the growth of digital services in Rwanda.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive data privacy program aligned with local and international regulations. Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new products, services, and initiatives. Provide privacy guidance and training to cross‑functional teams, ensuring privacy‑by‑design integration. Monitor regulatory changes and advise senior leadership on compliance implications. Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and oversee incident response related to privacy breaches. Collaborate with the legal department to draft and review privacy policies, terms of service, and consent mechanisms. Maintain records of processing activities (ROPA) and ensure accurate documentation. Engage with Rwanda’s data protection authority and industry groups to stay abreast of best practices.

Required Skills

In‑depth knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and Rwanda’s Data Protection Law. Strong analytical and risk assessment abilities. Excellent communication skills for translating complex legal concepts to technical audiences. Experience with privacy management tools and data mapping software. Ability to lead workshops and deliver effective training sessions. Proficiency in English; knowledge of Kinyarwanda and French is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly preferred.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, preferably within a multinational technology environment. Demonstrated experience in managing privacy programs across multiple jurisdictions is essential.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 1,500,000 to SSP 2,500,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and equity options may also be part of the total compensation package.

Benefits

Comprehensive health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision. Generous paid time off and parental leave. Retirement savings plan with company matching. Professional development stipend and certification support. Access to Microsoft’s global employee assistance programs.

Training

Onboarding program covering Microsoft’s privacy framework and local regulatory landscape. Continuous learning opportunities through Microsoft Learn, internal workshops, and external conferences. Mentorship from senior privacy leaders across Microsoft’s global network.

Working Environment

Microsoft Rwanda offers a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative workplace located in the heart of Kigali’s tech hub. Employees benefit from flexible working arrangements, state‑of‑the‑art facilities, and a culture that encourages creativity, diversity, and continuous improvement.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit their updated resume and a cover letter outlining their relevant experience through the Microsoft Careers portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and shortlisted candidates will be invited for a virtual interview followed by an on‑site assessment at our Kigali office.

Expert Application Advice

Instead of listing every task you’ve done, focus on one measurable achievement that proves you can handle les compétences demandées dans l'annonce. Use a concrete result—like a case won or a process improved—to show Microsoft Rwanda your real impact.

Positioning — Your cover letter must answer one question: why YOU for THIS specific role right NOW? Avoid generic templates — one sentence on what you specifically bring beats three generic paragraphs.

Targeted application — Align your CV to this offer's exact keywords and back every claimed skill with a concrete example. A cover letter showing you understand the specific challenges of this role consistently makes the difference.
