Full-Time Nursing Lecturer Position – School of Nursing
This is a permanent academic role within the School of Nursing, offering a full-time opportunity for an experienced educator to contribute to the development and delivery of nursing programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate or postgraduate nursing courses, mentoring students, and engaging in scholarly activities to advance the field. Additionally, the position involves curriculum development, academic advising, and participation in departmental and university initiatives. Candidates must possess a relevant advanced degree, professional nursing experience, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The position is to be based at its City Campus in Lusaka.
Job Purpose
The Lecturer will be tasked with delivering instruction, conducting research, designing curricula, mentoring students, evaluating academic performance, and managing administrative duties within the School of Nursing. The ideal candidate will enhance the quality of teaching and learning, foster research initiatives and innovation, and contribute to the University’s commitment to delivering excellence in higher education.
Principal Accountabilities
Faculty members will conduct engaging lectures, facilitate interactive tutorials, oversee practical sessions, and provide expert clinical instruction in their designated courses, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational content. Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and educational resources that meet the established standards of the University. Conduct continuous assessments, examinations, and other evaluative tasks for students, ensuring accurate preparation, administration, and marking. Provide oversight and guidance for undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, dissertations, and clinical practice placements. Contribute to the design, evaluation, and ongoing enhancement of academic programs through active involvement in curriculum development efforts. Ensure adherence to all stipulations set forth by the Higher Education Authority (HE), Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZARA), Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), and other pertinent regulatory bodies. Execute advanced academic inquiries and contribute original findings to esteemed, peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Engage actively in consultancy initiatives, community engagement efforts, and outreach programs to foster collaboration and promote stakeholder involvement. Offer academic support, counseling, and mentorship to students to facilitate their educational and personal development. Engage actively in departmental, faculty, and university-level committees and meetings to contribute to institutional decision-making processes and collaborative initiatives. Play an active role in quality assurance programs and accreditation procedures to uphold organizational standards and compliance requirements. Maintain precise academic records and generate necessary reports upon request. Contribute to curricular design initiatives, oversee assessment procedures, and facilitate commencement activities. Foster a culture of innovation, professionalism, and ethical integrity within teaching and research activities. Assigned academic responsibilities by the Head of Department or Dean should be executed as required.
Qualifications, Experience, and Personal Attributes
Education and Professional Background: Applicants must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. A Master’s degree or higher is strongly preferred. Professional certifications or license may be required, depending on the specific role.

The successful applicant must meet the following criteria:
A high school diploma or its equivalent, such as a Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate, is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required. An advanced academic qualification in Nursing, specifically holding a Master’s Degree in one of the designated specializations, is required for this position.
Maternal and Child Health, with a specialization in Midwifery, is a critical field dedicated to providing comprehensive care to women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, as well as to newborns and infants. This role requires a deep understanding of prenatal, antepartum, and postnatal care, along with proficiency in supporting natural childbirth processes and addressing any complications that may arise. Responsibilities include conducting regular prenatal check-ups, monitoring fetal development, offering breastfeeding support, and providing family planning education. Additionally, midwives play a vital role in advocating for maternal and infant health, ensuring safe delivery practices, and promoting overall well-being for both mother and child.
Professional mental health nursing positions are available for skilled psychiatric nurses dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Candidates must possess a valid nursing license, preferably with specialized training or certification in psychiatric and mental health nursing, along with a minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering psychotropic medications, and providing therapeutic interventions to support recovery and enhance overall well-being. Additionally, nurses will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered treatment approaches and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Public Health Nursing, Paediatrics Nursing, or a comparable nursing specialization or one closely associated with the field would be considered.
A valid and current practicing license along with professional registration is required. The General Nursing Council of Zambia (GNCZ) is tasked with regulating and upholding standards in the nursing profession throughout the country. It serves as the authoritative body responsible for licensing qualified nurses, ensuring compliance with professional ethics, and maintaining high standards of practice. Additionally, the GNCZ provides ongoing education and training opportunities to enhance the skills of nursing professionals, thereby contributing to improved healthcare delivery across Zambia.
A minimum of three years of post-qualification teaching and/or clinical experience is required. Proven track record in delivering effective instruction at the tertiary education level.
Candidates with a proven track record in designing curricula, implementing assessments, and overseeing student development will be highly regarded. Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in research methodologies and academic writing. Demonstrated proficiency in fostering collaborative relationships, conveying ideas clearly, and delivering compelling presentations to diverse audiences. A strong commitment to ethical standards, professionalism, and integrity is required. Ability to operate autonomously as well as collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams. Highly proficient in organizing tasks, structuring workflows, and managing time efficiently. Strong command of Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management Systems (LMS) is required. Professional affiliation with an accredited professional organization within the relevant field is required.
