Description: Job Summary Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator and Study Coordinator, the Laboratory Technologist will provide essential support to laboratory operations for the Proteomics Project. This position involves processing and managing biological specimens, conducting immunology assays, maintaining laboratory quality systems, and overseeing biobanking activities. Additionally, the role will assist with research and data management while ensuring strict adherence to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and institutional biosafety standards. Professional networking events Main duties In alignment with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), you will be responsible for receiving, processing, labeling, storing, and ensuring the traceability of biological specimens. Conduct a variety of laboratory procedures, such as processing specimens, isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), cryopreserving samples, performing ELISA and ELI Spot assays, and preparing samples for flow cytometry and other molecular analyses. Maintain the integrity of stored samples by overseeing the project biobank and monitoring specimen storage conditions. Prepare biological specimens for shipment to partnering laboratories, ensuring compliance with IATA regulations and institutional protocols, and package them appropriately for safe transport. Maintain precise documentation of laboratory activities, input findings into authorized data management systems, and safeguard the confidentiality of research data. Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), biosafety, biosecurity, and laboratory quality management standards throughout all operational processes. Monitor inventory levels for laboratory supplies and equipment, identify procurement requirements, and support quality assurance initiatives by addressing procedural discrepancies and resolving technical issues in laboratory operations. Facilitate laboratory planning efforts, oversee study monitoring visits, conduct audits, manage regulatory inspections, and assist in the preparation of study reports. Assist in the advancement of laboratory assay development, the revision and enhancement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the instruction and development of staff, and the execution of scientific research initiatives. Ensure the laboratory remains sanitary, secure, and meticulously arranged at all times. Handle any additional responsibilities as directed by the Principal Investigator or Study Coordinator. Qualifications Essential A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Laboratory Medicine, or a comparable scientific discipline is required. A minimum of two years of hands-on experience within a biomedical or clinical research laboratory setting is required. Proficiency in assisting clinical research studies and handling human biological specimens—such as blood, stool, and tissue samples—is required. Experienced in conducting immunological assays, including ELISA and ELI Spot, with hands-on expertise. Proficiency in peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) isolation, cryopreservation techniques, biobanking protocols, and implementation of laboratory quality management systems is required. Desirable Proficiency in preparing samples and conducting assays for immune cells using flow cytometry is required. Familiarity with protocols for transporting biological specimens and compliance with IATA regulations is essential. Proficiency in molecular immunology, transcriptomics, or spatial biology methodologies is required.
