Senior Officer, Accounting and Tax - Insurance Industry
Our client, a company in the insurance sector, is looking for a Senior Officer, Accounting and Tax to oversee accounting operations and ensure tax compliance. This role includes maintaining accurate financial records, preparing and filing tax returns, complying with current regulations, and providing strategic advice on tax planning.
Context of the position
Based in Accra, Greater Accra Region, this is a full-time position (8am to 5pm) requiring an intermediate level of experience with a minimum of 5 years. The candidate must speak English. The salary is attractive.
Responsibilities
Accounting and reporting
Assist in the preparation and ensure proper consolidation of financial data for group-level reporting. Participate in the implementation of all financial aspects of the strategic plan and the achievement of associated objectives. Collaborate to manage and maintain the business planning and budgeting process, including budgets, capital expenditure, budget monitoring, and forecasting. Help provide a comprehensive range of financial accounting and reporting services for profitability assessment across different segments (MM, CC, branch, business line, channel, and selected agents). Support the review of various schedules for external and internal reporting needs, including the monthly management report, NIC prudential reports, financial reports for board meetings, tax calculations, and annual financial statements. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with group, statutory, regulatory, and IFRS 17 requirements. Analyze and evaluate the impact of reporting on the organization, develop strategies to ensure compliance with new reporting (IFRS 17) and disclosure requirements. Coordinate, develop, and update written policies and procedures related to the financial reporting process. Collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels to ensure business priorities, financial objectives, and disciplines are well understood and met. Generate monthly cost statements comparing actuals to budgets and forecasts.
Tax compliance and filings
Support all tax compliance processes, including the preparation, review, and timely submission of tax returns (corporate income tax, VAT, payroll taxes, and other relevant taxes). Ensure accuracy of tax returns and compliance with local, national, and international tax regulations to avoid penalties or legal issues. Assist in the development and implementation of effective tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position while remaining fully compliant with applicable tax laws. Identify and mitigate potential tax risks by establishing strong internal controls and monitoring changes in tax regulations.
