Job Description
An officer at this level shall:
Participate in the strategic planning of the division in collaboration with other medical staff in the unit to make significant impact on the performance or business outcome of the University Health Unit and its sub-functions;
Attend to patients’ medical needs, diagnose their illnesses and prescribe medicines and other therapeutic interventions in consultation rooms and at the accident and emergency Unit of the University Health Unit;
Follow-up on and observe the medical condition and progress of patients and in the A &E Unit and those attending special clinics;
Provide medical advice, counselling, health education and control measures to patients in the University Health Unit in order to prevent spread of diseases and injuries;
Work with other medical staff to solve single or multiple medical issues and/or participate in performing major surgical procedures in the University Health Unit;
Implement best clinical practice policies and procedures in the University Health Unit;
Refer patients to the appropriate specialized clinics and medical consultants for further diagnosis, treatment and management of their medical conditions;
Provide quality emergency medical services to patients in the emergency Unit of the University Health Unit;
Implement the University culture of team-base, fact-base and patient-base and work towards achievement of the Health Unit’s Vision; and
Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

Job Description
An officer at this level shall:
Scrutinize patients' treatment sheets and prescriptions for suitability of prescribed drugs in relation to dosing accuracy, drug interaction and route of administration;
Provide drug information to patients, clinical officer, nurse and other medical staff;
Timely and accurate posting of dispensed drugs for billing purposes;
Place orders for stock replenishment to the pharmacy store to maintain optimal stock levels;
Participate in regular monitoring of drugs for expiry;
Compound, re-package and dilute drugs according to laid down guidelines;
Counsel patients appropriately to ensure adherence to drug therapy;
Participate in stock taking exercise and ensure timely explanation of stock variances;
Train and supervise pharmaceutical technologists’ interns;
Enter prescription orders into the computer and making labels appropriately;
Prepare periodic management reports;
Receive drugs and verify against the stock transfer printout;
Perform stock count and stock movement analysis;
Shelving of items appropriately; and
Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
