Senior Technical Advisor, Francophone Maternal Newborn Health (MNH) Regional, Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, Madagascar, Senegal Organization: Jhpiego Country: Senegal City: Dakar Office: Jhpiego in Dakar Overview Jhpiego is seeking a Francophone Maternal Newborn Health (MNH) Regional Senior Technical Advisor to provide technical expertise and leadership in the design, implementation, and oversight of MNHactivities as part of comprehensive MNH, child health, and nutrition (MNCH-N) programs. The Francophone MNH Regional Senior Technical Advisor will provide technical expertise in MNH to ensure delivery of high-quality technical approaches that reflect best practices in MNH. They will ensure technical approaches are aligned with and responsive to organizational, client, and donor needs and requirements. The Francophone Regional MNH Senior Technical Advisor will represent Jhpiego externally and establish strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance organizational objectives. They will foster new relationships internally and support the development of new external partnerships to achieve objectives. They will build capacity, support knowledge sharing, and support the development and implementation of selected work-plan activities and contribute to program reports, communications, and learning. This regional position will be based in a Francophone country in Africa with established Jhpiego presence and maternal and newborn health (MNH) programming (e.g., Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, Madagascar, Senegal). Responsibilities Technical Leadership in MNH Under the guidance of the Director of MNH, and in coordination with country government guidelines, support the development and implementation of country-led strategies, workplansand tools for strengthening MNH related to antenatal care, skilled delivery, essential newborn care, emergency obstetric care, and postnatal care. Support development and/or revision and use of evidence-based training/mentoring approaches and materials to strengthen competencies of MNH health care professionals. Coordinate with U.S. government (USG) and other non-USG partners to develop and align strategies and materials for delivery of quality MNH services (global, regional and country levels). Regularly synthesize and share global and regional MNH resources. Work with project Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team, technical and program managers to monitor prioritized data/results related to MNH activities and adjust program activities as needed. Organize and facilitate regular virtual cross-country learning focused on critical technical issues for effective implementation of MNH best practices. Provide technical leadership to country teams to identify and address bottlenecks in the availability of essential MNH commodities. Collaborate with Technical, Monitoring & Evaluation, and Quality Improvement colleagues at global, regional and country levels to improve and monitor quality of MNH services across system levels, using routine health information data as feasible (at global, regional, and country levels). Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement Represent Jhpiego in strategic engagement with U.S. government (USG) and other non-USG partners to develop and align strategies and technical resources for delivery of quality MNH services (regional and country levels). Foster strong relationships with USG and non-USG partners working in MNH (global, regional,and country levels). Knowledge Sharing, Learning and Reporting Regularly synthesize and share key evidence, publications, and global and regional MNHresources. Oversee preparation of technical reports, case studies, learning briefs, and presentations of project MNH activities and results. Lead and contribute to cross-country learning initiatives to capture and disseminate best practices and innovations in MNH programming. Required Qualifications Healthcare provider (e.g., midwife, physician) with at least 7 years of experience supporting MNH services as part of integrated MNCH and nutrition services, preferably in more than one Francophone country. At least 7 years of experience supporting MNH programs (preferably at primary and hospital levels). At least 5 years of experience supporting capacity building of health care providers to address both MNH routine care and emergencies. Up to date knowledge of and familiarity with global MNH evidence, guidelines, and resources Experience developing, reviewing, and providing feedback on project workplans and reports Flexibility to adapt to changing work environments and conditions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and supervision skills, including the demonstrated ability to lead, mentor,and coach technical staff in MNH principles. Ability to work independently and with team members and partners at all levels. Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically. Fluency in written and spoken English and French.
