The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Cameroon, CPS supports civil society partners in their collective goal-oriented commitment to non-violent conflict transformation, strengthening of social relations through dialogue, and fostering youth-led critical reflection on Cameroon’s histories. Together with partners, CPS promotes collective reflection and action to reinforce nonviolent norms including gender-just relations. Psychosocial support is part of the collaborative approach with partner staff and target groups. The CPS Advisor for Dealing with the Past and University Partnerships will conduct an exploratory mission to co-develop approaches with CPS partners Esperanza Cade and NDH for addressing historical legacies and to establish university partnerships in Cameroon and Germany. The position is based at the GIZ office in Yaounde. Regular travel to the West Region (Bafoussam), is required. Your tasks Conduct an exploratory mission to co-develop approaches with CPS partners for addressing historical legacies on the one hand, and to propose collaboration avenues with potential universities to the CPS team, aligned with program objectives, on the other hand Co-develop with partners methods for documenting local histories and educational tools, to facilitate dialogue on diverse historical perspectives Engage diaspora and allies: explore cooperation with the Cameroonian diaspora in Germany and other stakeholders, on colonial legacies, particularly with Esperanza Cade Generate scientific knowledge: design and implement processes and event formats to study dynamics of violence in Cameroon in collaboration with NDH; Contribute to strategic reflection with partners: especially with a focus on fostering critical and constructive thinking among youth through exploration of historical narratives and their impact on contemporary society Contribute to the monitoring of outcomes and assure the integration of conflict sensitivity, human rights-based approach and a gender perspective in all project’s measures
Expérience
Document learning experiences, lessons learnt and good practices for proactive commitment in knowledge management among the CPS team, the CPS partners’ network in Cameroon, CPS of GIZ, the CPS consortium and the GIZ NICD network
Master’s degree in social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, pedagogics, history, or any other relevant domain A strong interest for history, colonial legacies and pedagogic methods At least two years of experience working directly with universities A strong experience working with higher institutions like universities in Africa. Knowledge about Cameroon is an added value
Experience working with civil society organizations. Partner oriented work skills and strong reflective advisory competencies Patience, flexibility, autonomy and high frustration tolerance are needed Proven ability to work in a multicultural team and sensitivity to questions as racism and colonial legacies Business fluent in French; professional proficiency in English; speaking German would be an asset Location information We are pleased to offer you a first impression on topics such as climate, shopping and services, the school situation and health care in Cameroon . The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times.
