Salary:  Remunerated position Closing date:  19 June 2026 Profession:  Other Sector:  Financial markets; Banking, finance, investments, multilateral The Role The Independent Chair will lead the Board of FSD Africa and play a central role in stewarding the organisation through a period of strategic and institutional transition. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board members, donors, and key external stakeholders, the Chair will support governance effectiveness, Board cohesion, strategic oversight, and stakeholder engagement across an increasingly sophisticated operating environment. The role requires significantly more than traditional governance leadership alone. The successful candidate will help guide an institution operating at the intersection of African financial markets development, private capital mobilisation, institutional investment, and development finance. Ideal candidates will bring:

Expérience

Significant senior leadership experience across African financial markets, institutional investment, banking, private equity, infrastructure finance, or broader private capital ecosystems; Strong understanding of African capital mobilisation, including exposure to pension funds, sovereign capital, institutional asset managers, capital markets, or investment platforms; Senior Board, Lead Independent Director, or Chair experience within complex organisations, with experience stewarding Boards through transition, growth, or institutional evolution;

Strong judgment, listening capability, and the ability to build alignment across diverse stakeholder groups and cross-continental Board environments; and Strong African market credibility and networks, with substantial lived and professional experience operating across the continent.
