At the request of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the African Development Bank (AfDB) is funding Project D-VIBE (Digital Value Chain Infrastructure for Employment Stimulation), also known as Project BRIDGE. The project aims to extend Nigeria’s fibre optic network from 35,000 km to at least 125,000 km, making it the third longest terrestrial network in Africa after Egypt and South Africa. This extension will make it possible to compensate for the inadequacy of existing infrastructure, which currently covers only one third of national needs, by extending coverage to underserved or unserved areas. The D-VIBE project is part of the overall strategy of the ICT Operations Division (ICTD.2) and is an integral part of the vision, strategies and plans of the "AI 10 billion" programme and the Action Plan for Africa's Digital Transformation (DTAP).
The success of the D-VIBE project will depend not only on the deployment of the infrastructure, but also on the ability to effectively mobilize key partners around the overall objectives of the project. The establishment and execution of these partnerships will require strategic, compelling and focused communication.
