Job Summary The Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boilers and associated equipment. This role involves monitoring boiler performance, performing routine maintenance and inspections, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining accurate operational logs. Key Responsibilities 1. Boiler Operation & Monitoring – Operate boilers and auxiliary equipment (pumps, valves, feedwater systems, burners, etc.) safely and efficiently. – Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure pressure, temperature, and water levels remain within specified limits. – Adjust controls to maintain required steam output based on plant demand. – Start up, shut down, and switch over boilers as per operational requirements. 2. Maintenance & Inspection – Perform routine inspections of boilers, safety valves, gauges, and fittings. – Carry out basic preventive maintenance tasks such as blowing down boilers, cleaning filters, and lubricating moving parts. – Identify and report mechanical or electrical faults to the maintenance team. – Assist maintenance technicians during repairs and annual shutdowns. 3. Safety & Compliance – Adhere strictly to safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs). – Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and boiler inspection requirements (e.g., boiler certification, pressure vessel norms). – Conduct water treatment testing and maintain proper chemical dosing to prevent scale and corrosion. – Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and equipment failures to prevent accidents. 4. Record Keeping & Reporting – Maintain accurate daily logs of boiler operations (pressure, temperature, fuel consumption, water levels, etc.). – Record maintenance activities, breakdowns, and corrective actions taken. – Report abnormalities, fuel consumption trends, and equipment issues to the supervisor. – Assist in preparing reports for statutory inspections and audits. 5. Fuel & Utility Management – Monitor fuel (gas/oil/coal) consumption and report variances. – Coordinate with the stores team for spare parts and consumables required for boiler operation. – Ensure efficient use of water, fuel, and chemicals to reduce operating costs. Qualifications & Requirements – Education: ITI/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Boiler Operator Certificate (e.g., First Class/Second Class Boiler Operator certification as per local regulations) is mandatory. – Certified boiler operator – Tanzania handling atleast 3 MTPH output Job Location: Kisarawe, Tanzania
