Volunteering (CEV) | 6 months | November 2026 Who we are
Job overview
Acted works with 19 million people in 43 countries at the crossroads of humanitarian, development, climate and environmental programs. Through in-depth knowledge of contexts and adoption of emerging technologies, we save lives, alleviate suffering, and protect and restore our planet. Working with a growing ecosystem of local, national and international partners, we pursue a common goal: a 3Zero world: Zero Exclusion, Zero Carbon, Zero Poverty. Who we are looking for You bring the key skills expected of a humanitarian and development worker, but also an active climate and environmental awareness, and you can navigate the challenges that emerge when environmental and human suffering meet. You have the entrepreneurial spirit: you identify opportunities, connect points, adapt your approach to different environments, and take measured risks in pursuit of results. You combine principles with pragmatism, and ambition with humility. Acted Democratic Republic of the Congo The République Democratic Congo is facing a protracted humanitarian crisis, marked by persistent armed conflicts, massive population displacements, climate shocks and recurrent epidemic shocks, such as cholera, mpox or measles. These combined dynamics have a lasting impact on the living conditions of displaced, returned and host populations, particularly in the eastern provinces and parts of the western part of the country. In this context, Acted intervenes mainly in the provinces of South Kivu, North Kivu, Tanganyika, Nord-Ubangi and Sud-Ubangi, through projects funded by the Department of State / US, ECHO, FCDO, SDC, the Humanitarian Fund, as well as CDCS, in order to meet the immediate humanitarian needs and persistent vulnerabilities of the most affected populations. In order to strengthen the coverage and complementarity of its interventions, Acted acts in coordination with several operational partners, and is a member of humanitarian consortia. This coordination enables Acted to implement rapid, multi-sectoral emergency responses to address life-saving needs related to conflict, forced displacement, natural disasters and health crises. Interventions include food assistance, shelter and essential household items, water, hygiene and sanitation (EHA), site management and coordination (CCCM) as well as emergency education, with particular attention from the first humanitarian kilometer to the protection and dignity of vulnerable people. In South Kivu, Acted is also a key player in the Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM), contributing to rapid and coordinated responses related to population displacements and sudden shocks. At the same time, Acted is developing interventions to strengthen community resilience through support for livelihoods, agricultural recovery, food security and local economic recovery, in order to reduce vulnerability to recurrent shocks. Acted also provides structuring support to civil society organizations (CSOs) by strengthening their organizational and operational capacities. This support includes supporting the structuring of local initiatives as well as setting up cascading financing mechanisms, allowing CSOs to develop activities directly related to local issues and priorities identified by communities. Finally, Acted is gradually integrating environmentally sensitive approaches into its programs, aimed at preserving ecosystems and protected areas, reducing the environmental footprint of interventions and promoting low-carbon solutions. Through supporting communities, Acted encourages the development of sustainable income-generating activities and a greener local economy, contributing to the protection of natural resources while strengthening livelihoods.

Expert Application Advice

- •Never pay any amount of money — for a file, a training, a uniform, or an interview. A real employer never asks the candidate to pay.
- •Never send a photo of your ID card, passport, or banking details before you have physically verified the employer exists.
- •Always meet in a public place, during the day — never an isolated address, a private home, or a location you cannot verify in advance.
- •Tell a relative or friend exactly where you are going, with whom, and at what time — and share your live location if possible.
- •Search the company name online before going: a real business has a trace (website, reviews, other employees, an official address).
- •A salary that is far above the market rate for the position and the city is a red flag — be extra cautious.
