Underground Mining Alliance Akyem (“UMAA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine.

Job Description

UMAA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Blast man.

This is Obuasi based Fixed Term Contract position with a competitive work roster at its operation in Obuasi. Remuneration package includes attractive salary and performance-based incentive payments for the right candidate.

The position will provide you with an excellent opportunity to further develop your career in underground mechanised mining while working alongside experienced industry professionals in a safe, dynamic and outcome focused environment.

Position

The Blast Man works as part of the charge-up team, responsible for loading, priming, and detonating explosives in drilled blast holes as per design

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Charge blast holes with explosives according to procedures.

Handle, transport, and store explosives safely.

Set up and connect detonators, fuses, and firing systems.

Assist with stemming and securing blast sites.

Follow instructions from the Leading Hand Blast Man.

Conduct pre- and post-blast area checks for safety compliance.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum of a High School Certificate.

Certificate or coursework in Mining, Engineering, or related technical field.

Underground charge-up/blasting experience.

Basic knowledge of explosives and detonator systems.

Ability to work safely in high-risk conditions.

Blasting competency certification (or willingness to obtain).

Deep knowledge of explosives safety standards and regulations.

Willingness and ability to work in underground conditions on a roster basis.

Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive SUV underground.
