Development Expertise Lab (DEL) is seeking a Field Coordinator to oversee a large-scale phone survey with Afghan refugees in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan. This short-term consultancy, paid at a daily rate, runs from early September 2026 to late October 2026, covering preparation, training, pilot, and data collection. The role is remote, with no travel required, and is open to candidates based in Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, or Afghanistan. Fluency in Dari is essential.
As Field Coordinator, you will supervise a small team of enumerators, supporting the DEL project team in obtaining local authorisations, assisting with enumerator recruitment and selection, and contributing to the survey implementation plan, manual, and training programme. You will co-facilitate the three-day enumerator training and the one-day pilot, oversee daily enumerator work, monitor productivity, and manage call scheduling. You will also implement routine data quality assurance, follow up on high-frequency check flags, ensure accurate recording of call attempts and outcomes, and reconcile data discrepancies with the central team. Adherence to survey procedures, ethical standards, informed consent, and data protection for sensitive data is critical. You will participate in daily check-ins during the first week of data collection and regular check-ins thereafter.
Qualifications include native or fluent Dari and professional English (both required; Pashto is an asset), demonstrated experience supervising enumerators on socio-economic surveys including phone-based (CATI) surveys, familiarity with computer-assisted interviewing software (SurveyCTO is a strong asset), knowledge of the cultural context of the respondent population, and a university degree. Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise between enumerators, project management, and research teams are essential.
