Zambia Sugar Plc, a leading sugar producer, is seeking a qualified and experienced Process Engineer for its Raw House department. This is a permanent, full-time position based in Nakambala, Mazabuka, Zambia.
Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving SHERQ (Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality) and food-safety compliance and culture within the Raw House. Key performance areas include:
Driving a zero-harm culture and ensuring compliance with SHERQ and food-safety standards. Developing and enforcing strategies to improve boiling-house recovery in backend operations. Leading the Backend Focused Improvement Team and promoting multidisciplinary problem-solving. Enforcing Technical Operating Practices and monitoring KPI boards, work instructions, log sheets, and dashboards.
The ideal candidate will also conduct MOP (Management of Change) audits, manage gap closure, and ensure compliance with risk-audit requirements. They will review performance trends, identify focus areas, and implement performance-improvement plans. Additionally, they will implement prototypes and new standards, onboard operatives, identify learning and development needs, and manage training with business partners. Improving equipment availability, maintaining critical consumable stocks, and planning shutdown work are also key responsibilities. Ensuring HACCP and HIRA reviews, adopting group best practices, and closing audit findings are essential. The role also involves managing molasses-handling and effluent systems, developing season and off-crop operating budgets, and coordinating off-crop inspections.
Minimum qualifications and experience required: Full Grade 12 Certificate. Preferably a degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent. Preferably 8+ years' experience in the sugar industry. Preferably 5+ years' experience in backend or Raw House operations. Sugar Engineering or Sugar Technology training is an added advantage. Certificates must be verified by ZAQA.
