Program Manager, Online Engineering Certificate Programs – CMU Africa

Nowhere is this innovation more evident than at Carnegie Mellon University Africa (CMU-Africa) in Kigali, Rwanda—a branch campus since 2011 that advances engineering, technology, and research through advanced graduate education, applied research, and strategic alliances. Through initiatives like the Center for Inclusive Digital Transformation of Africa (The Center) and the African Engineering and Technology Network (AFROTC), CMU-Africa partners with leading universities, governments, industries, and organizations to enhance engineering education, innovation, and entrepreneurship across the continent. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and service-focused Program Manager to oversee the operational delivery, expansion, and enhancement of The Center’s Online Certificate Programs. In close partnership with the Associate Director of Teaching & Learning, this role will function as the central operational driver for a portfolio of online credentials tailored to address critical digital skills and workforce development needs across Africa. The position spans the entire learner journey—from initial skills assessment and program design through recruitment, admissions, enrollment, learner support, credential conferral, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will oversee the planning and execution of a growing suite of short online courses, modules, and workshops aimed at equipping professionals with high-demand technology skills and accelerating their career progression within the digital economy. This role demands strong program coordination capabilities, meticulous attention to detail, a dedication to learner success, and the ability to effectively engage with faculty, learners, industry partners, government stakeholders, AFROTC institutions, and internal teams. Key responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations of The Center’s online certificate offerings, coordinating timelines, processes, and learner-facing services; collaborating with the Associate Director of Teaching & Learning to conduct stakeholder consultations with employers, government bodies, AFROTC institutions, and partners to identify evolving skills needs and ensure program relevance; assisting in the development, launch, evaluation, and continuous improvement of scalable, stackable credentials recognized by employers and aligned with Africa’s technology talent requirements; coordinating recruitment and outreach initiatives with industry partners, NGOs, and AFROTC institutions to meet enrollment targets and enhance program visibility; partnering with marketing and communications teams to maintain program branding, support outreach efforts, and ensure accuracy across websites, promotional materials, and public-facing content; administering admissions processes, including application management
